I tried that method, but I'm unable to find that line in the file for the 285.38 drivers.

We I've updated my patch program to do it the new way.
Here are the latest:

nVidia 330M Version 285.38 BETA (new patch method) This is what I am currently running on Windows 8

I will be updating the patch downloads, and making the pre-patched latest WHQL.

Everything is now up to date with the version 2 patch inspired by shurcooL
The WHQL drivers are still uploading, they will be done in 10 minutes.

Edit - it works for the resolution, but I seem to have since lost the ability to change brightness!

Yes, that may be, although I didn't have the brightness with the latest BETA's before the new hack.

What is more upsetting to me is that the new hack doesn't enable 3D Vision. Crap on that I'm back to the old way. I watch 3D on my projector a lot. We need to actually figure out what does what so I can make a patch program that patches everything perfectly for all settings. Meh, I am just going to stick to the old version, I don't use VGA. Until we come up with a better solution I need my 3D Vision.

I modded the 285.38 (W7x64) a bit different and I can adjust the brightness settings.

Display.Driver/nvszc.inf

The following line:

%NVIDIA_DEV.0A29.02% = Section023, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0A29&SUBSYS_9067104D

was replaced with:

%NVIDIA_DEV.0A2B.02% = Section023, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0A2B&SUBSYS_905A104D

I only changed the values in BOLD, did that twice and then 0A29 was also replaced with 0A2B one more time at the end of the nvszc.inf-file, under section [Strings]

When I installed the driver it did not even ask about signing or anything, it installed without a hitch, that never happened before while modding a inf.

I don't use 3D Vision so I can't comment on that, but at least the brightness works now.

3D Vision 2 is an improvement for LCD only. I use DLP projection which is plenty bright with zero cross-talk already.

You need to copy the 3-D settings from the working INF.
