Re: Replacing Optical with HD/SSD in SA/SB/SC/SD series
Great guide Lazybee, I was glad to hear that the weight difference is minimal. Still that crack bothers me, I don't to mar my new beauty.

Re: Replacing Optical with HD/SSD in SA/SB/SC/SD series
Does anyone know if the vaio SA supports SATA 6? I'm thinking of following Lazybee's guide to put in a HDD and add a vertex 3 SSD in place of the ODD, but don't want to spend on the vertex 3 if my speeds will be limited to sata 3.
btw, thanks Lazybee!

Re: Replacing Optical with HD/SSD in SA/SB/SC/SD series
is the ODD bay swappable easily between the HDD caddy and the ODD? You'll need an additional face-plate for that, right?

Re: Replacing Optical with HD/SSD in SA/SB/SC/SD series
You would need an additional face plate, however I don't believe it would be advisable as the internal Sata connections are not made for hot swapping or multiple re connections. I also found that the caddy was a tighter fit than the odd and was somewhat difficult to re-seat. Perhaps you will have more luck with it though.

Re: Replacing Optical with HD/SSD in SA/SB/SC/SD series
For anyone else thinking of ordering the spare bezel, I called in my order since the Sony Parts store was down yesterday. I paid the $2.49 for 5-7 day ground shipping for a total of $12.14 with New York tax. It arrived via fedex next day. One of the fastest orders I've ever received actually - less than 18 hours since the time of the call.
Unfortunately, the rep couldn't tell me which color silver I needed for my "platinum silver" Vaio SA. They had two options: "Silver" and "Light silver". Light silver was backordered, so I took a chance with the regular silver one. It's several shades too dark though, so I'm going to exchange it.
