Re: VAIO FW Clean Windows 7 Install Guide
HI There,
I followed your guide, but I'm not able to get HDMI audio to work.
Under the HDMI preferences pane, no encoded formats appear. Previously with the factory installed Vista, I would see Dolby, DTS, etc.
appreciate any help you'll can offer.
Cheers,

Re: VAIO FW Clean Windows 7 Install Guide
Thanks, I know you can't use RC keys on RTM versions but my question was whether I can use my vista 64 bit key on a Windows7 Home Premium RTM (not the upgrade disk). I only said I have used the RC version because you mentioned that I try the free trial.
At any rate, my buddy was able to get me a product key since he's a member on technet (since they can get about 10 keys per OS). I was able to successfully install Windows 7 Ultimate x64. I basically followed the directions on this thread but Windows 7 already has all the drivers. I won't take credit for what has already been said but just to recap after you installed Windows 7 these drivers need to be installed since W7 doesn't have these:
1) Install the Sony Firmware Extencion Parser
2) Setting Utilities Series
3) VAIO Control Center
4) VAIO Event Service
5) VAIO Power Management
6) Sony Shared Library (yes, this is the one you need to get the Fn keys working properly as well as the shortcut keys. These keys would not work until after I installed it)
7) ATI HDMI audio drivers from Realteks website
8) ATI CCC and GPU drivers
And that's it. You don't need to install all the stuff that the first post had, just the 8 above.

Re: VAIO FW Clean Windows 7 Install Guide
@trojanwr21
VGN-FW290, Windows 7 Ultimate x64 RTM.
Clean install + Sony Vista x64 drivers as described above, the Fn and Shortcut keys are all working, brightness and volume OSD.
(Only the "AV Mode" key is non-functional, I don;t want to install VAIO launcher, does anyone know how to map this key to launch a program, media player, itunes etc..)
Problems with Windows 7 'default' drivers:
1) Internal microphone not working in all apps. Fixed with latest Realtek Windows 7 driver.

2) Bluetooth, only has Dial-Up profile, no OBEX, Audio or Sync. Fixed by
i) Install Sony Bluetooth driver:

ii) Then update to latest Braodcom driver with update utility:

Re: VAIO FW Clean Windows 7 Install Guide
t-bon3,
My AV button is working and I didn't even install the Vaio Launcher....weird. As for the microphone problem, I noticed that too. I installed the Realtek drivers then looked up the microphone profile and it defaulted to the one that Windows 7 installed. It showed 2 profiles and the one that W7 installed doesn't work for some reason so I manually uninstalled that and set the Realtek driver as the default then everything started working.
I didn't check on the bluetooth yet but thanks for posting that tip. I'll update my bluetooth driver anyways to something more recent.

Re: VAIO FW Clean Windows 7 Install Guide
I have a Vaio VGN-CS16G/R and why is is that after installing Win7 RTM x64 and installing the necessary drivers, I DON'T see the "adjust brightness slider" on the power options? With my other laptops with the same OS, I can see that slider completely.
Also, I when I install Vaio Launcher which I got from the extracted Sony Notebook Utilities installer, it returns an error of:
" Error Number: 0x80040703
Description: Failed to find DLL function: SnyUtils.SuOpen
Setup will now terminate. "
Are there workarounds on this?

Re: VAIO FW Clean Windows 7 Install Guide
I already did install the GPU driver for my Nvidia Geforce 9300M GS.
The official 186.81 NVIDIA drivers doesn't seem to work and returns the unrecognizable hardware error so I downloaded from laptopvideo2go and installed it. Still no success.
Even with the nvidia driver from windows update it doesn't seem to add that brightness control.
What can I do?
