Vaio Z: USB Flash Drive not mounting or very slow mounting after sleep
So I am having this problem with my USB flash drive (USB HDD powered from the USB itself seems to work fine). My flash drives are not operational after waking up from sleep in Vista. After a minute or so, it finally goes through, and it starts working. But right after sleep, for what seems to be an insanely long time, it doesn't respond at all. If I reconnect the flash drive, it starts working instantly.
Anybody have this problem with your Z and Vista?
Thanks

Re: Vaio Z: USB Flash Drive not mounting or very slow mounting after sleep
Will someone tell me if they are seeing the same issue occurring with their Vista installed Z?

Let me rephrase, respond if you don't have this problem
. If you don't, then I have an issue with my OS, in which case I will probably attempt to re-install. But if other people are having this issue as well, then the re-install probably won't fix it anyway. In which case, I may downgrade to XP.

Re: Vaio Z: USB Flash Drive not mounting or very slow mounting after sleep
I am surprised I did not get many response to this, but I have determined this is a problem with the factory installed Vista + software that comes with the computer and is part of the recovery disks.
I determined this based on a clean install of Vista from a retail disk. Once everything was installed, including sony drivers and software, I tested this problem. The USB flash drive is responsive immediately after waking up from sleep.
I formatted my drive, and installed Vista from the recovery disks, along with all the other crap. The USB is not responsive for a minute after waking up from sleep.
I also installed XP SP3 to make sure. And sure enough the USB drive is responsive immediately after wakeup.
Should bring this problem to Sony's attention so a patch can be distributed.

Re: Vaio Z: USB Flash Drive not mounting or very slow mounting after sleep
Hmmm, just found this thread, I don't use flash drives much so never leave one plugged in, but I'll try it and see what happens.
Yep, it seems mine does do this too. I plugged in a flash drive, it showed up instantly, I put it in standby and woke it back up after a few seconds, and now the drive is still showing up but won't actually open yet. And also the light on the flash drive isn't on (which it normally is). It has just opened now (and the light come on) after about a minute or so.
Don't know if it means anything, but if I put the laptop on standby and then unplug the drive and plug it back in, the light on it comes on for a second then goes off, and it works straight away when I bring the laptop out of standby again.

Same with USB ports on Toshiba R500 running Vista
I have a similar problem with Vista on a Toshiba R500. After waking from Standby the USB ports take 35 to 60 seconds to begin working.
I noticed it because I use a USB wireless mouse. The same happens with a Bluetooth mouse because the BT adapter uses an internal USB port.
Looks as if it's a Vista issue not a Vaio or Toshiba issue. It's a real nuisance though!

Re: Vaio Z: USB Flash Drive not mounting or very slow mounting after sleep
Had the problem on my FW285 - Sony issued a patch a while back in early Feb (at least for the FW model) - See if have same for your. Works like a charm now, no issues with the sleep mode.

Re: Vaio Z: USB Flash Drive not mounting or very slow mounting after sleep
Many thanks for responding. That's very interesting to know. I'll try to follow it up, but I'd appreciate any clues as to what aspect the patch addressed. Wondering if it was Bios, USB driver, etc.. It's been a real niggle because quick wake-up for a laptop is crucial, and having to wait up to a minute for the mouse to respond really spoils things.
