GeForce 8400M GS - Idle Temperatures
Hi everyone,
If you have a GeForce 8400M GS in your Vaio please take a moment to help us collect some information. This thread was inspired by @sinstoic's very useful thread in the Dell forum. It might be beneficial for us to do one of these for each of the G84M & G86M variants.
If you have a FZ go here instead. If you have a AR go here please.
After you vote please answer the following in a reply. Thank you!
- What model Vaio?
- What is your idle GPU temperature (in Centigrade)?
- What software was used in measuring your GPU temperature?
- What was the temperature in the room during measurement?
- What video driver was used and where was it obtained? (If applicable please indicate if you've over/under clocked the GPU as well.)
- What operating system was the temperature measured under? 32bit or 64bit?
- Please indicate the power scheme in use when the temperature was measured. Was Powermizer enabled or disabled?
- Where any modifications used to obtain the temperature? (e.g. Software Fan Control, Hardware Modification, External Cooler, etc...)
- What has been the highest temperature you've seen on your card? What application/game was used when this was obtained?

Re: GeForce 8400M GS - Idle Temperatures
Powermizer (Nvidia link). I think it was also available in the 7xxx series (possibly earlier under a different marketing name). It decreases/increases the GPU's clockspeed dynamically when needed with the goal of conserving battery life.
I *think* there were issues with their SmartDimmer software and the brightness functions on Vaios.. There's a couple threads on it somewhere around here..
