    Hi,

I googled and found this thread. I am not particularly computer savvy.

I have a Sony VGN-SZ330p, and I would like to upgrade to Windows 7 32-bit. The windows7 upgrade advisor seems to think most things are a go.

Does anyone know what additional actions would have to be taken (i.e. drivers that I need to hunt down) after doing a (clean) Windows 7 32-bit install? Are all my current drivers with XP supplanted by drivers that are easily obtained with a Windows Update?

Thanks to anyone who can help

    hello,

I cannot check this registry patch. I gave up on x64 windows 7 on my sz330p and got back to x32 as I like to use camera.

Sony has recently posted some DEVICES_AND_PRINTERS_RICOH_REGISTRY_PATCH_X64_E_090811.ZIP
    on 17th November 2009.
Can somebody who is running x64 Windows 7 check how does this affect camera issues?

(it's easy to find, just sort by "last modified" and it's somewhere on the bottom)

It's not necessary to install dual boot for getting the camera to work. Once installed the vista drivers on w7, it's enough reboot with a liveCD OS, then install webcam drivers properly and test your webcam.
    Then reboot (not shutdown!).
I've made with an ubuntu ultimate edition 1.9 (hardy heron) distro. I've booted with this liveDVD and I've installed and tested the webcam (instructions for installing and testing: http://www.ubuntu-es.org/?q=node/78301). Then I've rebooted (not shutdown) my notebook (vaio VGN-SZ3XP/C). To do this, in terminal, write reboot. Extract DVD distro and reboot with w7. That works!

I've writed a guide for vaio VGN-SZ3XP/C, but in spanish (Guía para instalar windows 7 x64 en un vaio VGN-SZ3XP/C. Basically it's the same of this post without dual boot installation, only using a liveDVD.

If you mean the SZ460N, then yes. I am running Windows 7 x64 on it right now just fine. The only thing I cannot get running correctly is the webcam and sometimes when I wake the computer from sleep it can't adjust the screen brightness unless I unplug/plugin the power cable.

I've noticed Windows 7 32bit can not recognize CPU... it shows only one core?

My man, i would personally like to thank you for posting this link.

after many hours of pulling what few strands of hair i have left out, i found your post.

    anyway heres what i have.

    sony vaio vgn-fz31m (uk model)

    installed windows vista 32bit ultimate

    no webcam

this laptop has the vcc8 ricoh camera.

used your link and point windows to the folder and hey presto it updated, and worked fine in the sony webcam utility.

all other drivers just produced a black screen, and windows update just installed a uxb video device.

    many thanks buddy!!!!!!!!!

The FN keys work (including brightness), along with mics and camera (VCC2). I used WINDOWS 7 upgrade disks, upgrading from XP.

    For installation follow this order:

First UPDATE the BIOS (see Sony support website for your computer model http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/sel...IRECTOR=DRIVER)
question... I have the same exact system (vgn sz360p) and how did you get the bios update to work? every time i try to run it in any system (except vista business b/c i dont have that just home prem) it says cannot read system information.
