Re: Official Sony Vaio F Series Owners Thread *Part 6*
Hello All,
its been while...Recently I installed the Windows 8 RTM as clean installation on Sonvu Vaio F (VCPF1190X) and updated the NVIDIA latest drivers also....In Device manager I still see a item with Yellow Exclamation under "Other Devices" as "Unknown Device"..I couldn't figure out it as what is this one...any one installed Windows 8 already have some info for me?
Also I never had freezing issue with Win7, seems in windows 8 I experienced it couple of time...It was fine when I had Developer preview in second partition..it started after I performed the clean installation.....looked around in event log but couldn't find anything helps as what causing issue...I am just thinking as may be some IRQ issue? not sure how to figure out this..
Thanks in advance..

Hello!
I have Sony Vaio F13 (VPCF13S0E/B) . I installed Windows 8 Pro in my laptop. Only sony driver&software problem was that Vaio update program is not working. Vaio control center and Vaio Care are working normally. I also have problems with bluetooth distance. I have bluetooth mouse and logitech dinovo mini keyboard. Both devices were working perfectly from my livingroom´s coach (about 4 meters distance) when I had Windows 7. Now after I installed Windows 8, maximum bluetooth distance is only about 2 meters from laptop.
Anyone with same problems???

The new touchpad drivers are working perfectly.
Windvd is not working for me also. Strange thing is that it doesn't show any error messages, itjust won't start.
According to Lenovo the current version of Windvd is not compatible with Windows 8:

Just update, all seems good now except the ones already talked here in Windows 8 ( Sony control center not working)....
Earlier when I had Win8, I also had Linux as second OS in same drive (crucial m4, 128GB)...which seems the problem for all freezing ups....Wiped everything and done fresh Win8 install, all seems good now..There isn't any freeze up in past 36-48 hours...
On Separate note, for some reason I never able to install the WinDVD in Win7 fresh install itself...Its same on Win 8 too.....Worrying part is Optical drive seems to degrading very fast...I was able to use it for Win8 installation last time but this time when I tried its not even seeing the DVD...If I had Boot CD it sees but not the DVD..(even after installing Win8)..
did any body happened to have problem with the drive and changed? if so which one is recommended...
Thank you...

Hey I am still having a problem with my battery. I ordered a new one and the only difference was that the charge light was rapidly blinking with the new battery.
I am determined to solve this problem, I have exhausted google, and it seems a rather confined problem.
my laptop wont run off the battery or charger and my i7 840qm will not run past 1.2 GHz with the battery in or out.
with the battery in, the indicator (in two different os's) shows battery power on but no a/c connection, yet it's running on just the a/c connection
the battery I have shows 97% and it degrades about 1% every 5 days, the battery won charge or give power, it detects the battery properly but not the a/c
power unless there is no battery (no battery detected). This mainly sucks cuz the cpu wont auto-overclock so it's really slow. Any similar experiences or any ideas
about what I should do to better diagnose or repair the problem? or is the cpu not running at full speed even related to the battery not working?

Reflash BIOS!
EDIT: Why have you bought a new battery at all?? Haven't Anseio told you that it won't help? Sorry to say but you just threw money... unless it was a big capacity one.
If you can I suggest you to send it back.
About your problem. I think you have a bad setting written in BIOS. Who knows why but... So you need to flash the BIOS again. You can try either to flash older BIOS version (if you find it anywhere) or newer (unless you already have the newest) or the same version but it will be little bit more complicated. You can mess with it making it flash or I can send you an archive with proper stuff to flash your bios. It will be OEM BIOS for F13 without any modding. But anyway you gonna do it on your risk and I don't guarantee anything.
Instructions:
1. Either Download BIOS file from this LINK or go to STEP 3.
2. Using 7zip extract all files from this exe file. Right click>7zip>extract in folder EP...
3. If you downloaded it from official Sony site then you don't need to do this Step. Download already extracted and archieved in usual rar BIOS. Download it from this LINK. MD5 checksum is F1EA3641DAAA8FAE580BF97330FA758A
4. Connect to AC and PRAY that power will NOT go off as your battery is not working, right?
5. Make sure you deactivated all BIOS hacks (if were some) and stop all heavy programs. Prepare OS to a BIOS flash.
6. Double click the BAT file. Wait until it finishes. Don't move the mouse.
7. Reboot computer and pray;)
8. If all is OK then first 2-3 seconds will be black screen then you will see logo. And it boots. Check the battery.
P.S. If for some reason RIGHT AFTER FLASHING BIOS you think that flashing was NOT successful (error message in the middle of flashing or else then DO NOT REBOOT A COMPUTER!!! Try to reflash BIOS again or ask help on forum.)

Hi. Do you try to use USB 3.0 devices ?
Hi, James D. Yes I did.Only USB 3.0 device that I have is external hard drive.Actually double the copy speed (25 Mbs with USB 2.0-45 Mbs with USB 3.0) but in Device Manager USB Root Hub is operating at high speed not at super speed! And I have install 3 different drivers from Asmedia!
You need to install proper firmware.
To update AsMedia (I assume you have AsMedia card) firmware you need to either compile a package by yourself or just download mine which is attached to this post.
To do it yourself:
- go here and download pre-latest firmware which is Version 110914 Pour Windows Xp/Vista/7 32/64bits firmware 04/10/11.
- Go back and download latest firmware Version 12220E Pour Windows Xp/Vista/7 32/64bits firmware 14/02/12.
- If in the latest firmware folder there will be no file 1222_0E.bin then you need to doubleclick 104xfwdl.exe file and it will show you an error but bin file will be created anyway.
- Copy this 1222_0E.bin file to a folder with flasher which is in pre-last firmware folder. And delete (or move) older bin file from there which is xHCI_v110914_00_02_51.bin
- unplug ALL USB devices from USB 3.0 ExpressCard.
- Then start flashing by double clicking Firmware.exe
You are doing this at your own risk. I have done this in 2 steps:
1. Updated firmware to a v.110914
2. Updated to the latest one.

Thank you very much for responding james, It was before I read ansios post that I ordered the batt I got a good deal on ebay a large cap. for 100, but I did return it.
I too thought it was a bios issue as I couldn't see the hardware issue but that makes a lot of sense. I have updated to the latest bios I believe, no mods though, but your saying I can reflash with the same version (r0190y9)? is there a way to extract the bios and verify them against the originals to make sure before I flash?
EDIT: I just tried the reflashing, the operation completed fine and I rebooted to a 10 sec of agonizing horror, but it finally posted to no avail still slow cpu and still no battery power =( any more ideas?
