Re: Official Sony Vaio F Series Owners Thread *Part 6*
All can be. In this case you should check also both sticks together. If seperate check will be OK but together they will fail then you should try another brand or another kit of same one. What did you buy?

2x8GB Corsair. I tried memetest for a few hours, without a problem.
But how can memory be responsible for screen? Notebook does wake up, it's just the screen that doens't show anything.

Re: Official Sony Vaio F Series Owners Thread *Part 6*
well. I had laptop which I put in sleep mode. Then tried to wake it so it lights LEDs, let the fan spin but screen is still black. But it wasn't awake. If your laptop is really awakening which means you can still hear some sound effects or play video (launching without need of screen) or somehow to clarify that it really is awake then you must have problems with GPU.

Anti-glare film for the Vaio - one user's bad experience
I purchased Photodon's MXS anti-glare film to help with the mirror like reflections on my F-Series that make it completely unusable in many locations. If you're considering doing the same here's how it worked out for me.
The film doesn't come cheap for a thin piece of plastic - it's $23 with postage. It comes with an installation cloth and instructions. I took the time to read the instructions and watch the short installation video on Photodon's web site a couple of times. I then spent about 20 minutes thoroughly cleaning my Vaio using the lint free cloth provided.
The trouble started when I tried to use the foam tape Photodon provided to remove lint from the screen. The tape actually adhered completely to the screen and I had to pull hard to get it off. When I did that it left little pieces of white foam and adhesive stuck to the screen. I finally got that off and instead used a moderately sticky piece of 3M tape to get all other visible dust off.
Next I tried to apply the film and found it was simply not possible to get the surface clean enough to use this product. ANY piece of dust, no matter how small, causes a bubble to form between the screen and the film. I spent another 75 minutes attempting to install this film and using tape to remove each tiny piece of dust as the bubbles made the dust visible. Each time I would pull the film away to remove one piece of dust, other pieces of dust floating in the air would adhere to the screen or the adhesive on the film. (I do not have a significant dust problem in my home.) The more I handled it the worse it got and ultimately I was never able remove enough dust to install the film and make it usable. I ended up throwing it away.
Unless you have a clean room at your disposal or the patience of a saint adhesive anti-glare film is probably not a good purchase.

trick to applying a screen film is to do it in the bathroom after a steam shower. This will be room that has least dust.

NO!Why did you threw it away?
All you needed was just ceaning that film in he water to remove dust nd start over. Can you get it back and clean it?
I understand you though. I have troubles applying it to a phone while laptop is like 20 times bigger. If you can get that film back but do not want to reapply or clean you can send it to me
P.S. There is no room without dust. maybe really only bathroom.Even genius without a proper knowledge can be mislead

Re: Official Sony Vaio F Series Owners Thread *Part 6*
Pre-purchase question:
Sony advises it is NOT possible to upgrade DVD to Blu-Ray drive on your own.
Really? Has anyone looked inside a current-gen machine to see what's what?
If it's not mechanically impossible (or nearly so), is it a matter of finding either a drive that fits, or a software driver?
Obviously, it's a warranty breaker.
Thanks!

Re: Official Sony Vaio F Series Owners Thread *Part 6*
I believe it is possible. But if you want to buy VAIO f 2x model then you have to ask this question in another thread. This is F1x thread.
But Sony reps as all others knows nothing about anything more than already built in machine. I say it is 100% possible.Even genius without a proper knowledge can be mislead
