Re: Official Sony Vaio F Series Owners Thread *Part 6*
Hi I'm thinking about buying the f series cto model. I've always liked the keyboard. Was just wondering how is the build quality? Has anyone had major problems with their f series? How is the 1080p screen quality and the sound? Thanks!

Re: Official Sony Vaio F Series Owners Thread *Part 6*
I ended up getting the Crucial M4 128GB SSD for my VAIO F132FX and it was my lucky weekend because it was on sale too. I know that my laptop uses SATA 2.0 (verified using Intel RST) but the reason I went with the Crucial M4 (which is SATA 3.0) is because of the high rating for the random 4k read IOPS and performance reviews from various sources. The fact that it was on sale too did not hurt.
For anyone looking for a great SSD I would highly recommend the Crucial M4. Even using it with a SATA 2.0 interface it is super fast and all my programs load instantly.Sony VAIO VPCF132FX/B: Core i7 740QM, 8GB DDR3 (upgraded from 4GB), 16.4" 1600x900, NVIDIA GeForce 310M 512MB, HDMI, Crucial M4 128GB SSD (upgraded from 500GB HDD), Blu-ray reader, Backlit keyboard, USB 3.0 ports, Windows 7 Home Premium.

Re: Official Sony Vaio F Series Owners Thread *Part 6*
I was just looking at the Crucial support forum and some people recommend updating to the latest Intel RST drivers. Has anyone done that or are they still using the original Intel RST drivers like I am?

Re: Official Sony Vaio F Series Owners Thread *Part 6*
1. go to intel support page and search for intel rst. download f6 driver. then go to device manager and right clic update driver and browse to downloaded unzipped folder. you need to update intel 5 storage controller or else which is in Sata controllers.
2. 2nd hdd caddy is your friend. Buy it on ebay. fenvi is the best but expensive. you van buy cheaper. just choose one with changeable side covers so you could use built in dvd rom side cover which you already have..Even genius without a proper knowledge can be mislead

Re: Official Sony Vaio F Series Owners Thread *Part 6*
Think about a new F24 with the i5 proc for office work and have two questions:
Is the fan noisy? Do not like a notebook where the fan is running even when the processor is idle.
Does a new machine smack of something? I do not like the new plastics and electronics smell some machines do have and I have a very fine nose regarding this odors.
Or should I look at something else?
Kind regards for all answers.

Vaio F24 build quality and comparison to SE series
Hi chaps,
Could someone please take a minute to to give a sincere appraisal of the new F series build quality with respect to materials used and perhaps even a comparison with HP Envy 15 or Vaio SE series if anybody has tried both of them
Is the Vaio F case a composite of mostly plastic, or is it really made of a metal such as aluminium? Does it feel stronger/sturdier than the HP or vaio SE above?
Also anybody know of any significant differences between the VAio F22 and the latest Vaio F24? (UK models). I'm going to buy the model with the Premium screen as it was recommended to be much better than the standard screen. (I'm hoping it's some kind of RGB-LED TN backlit or PVA/IPS variant).
Thanks for any pointers!

Re: Official Sony Vaio F Series Owners Thread *Part 6*
I can compare the previous F1x to F2x, and I think SE is hardly comparably to either. F2x is much more rugged than the F1x for example, I do not notice any plastic, other than the keyboard buttons obviously. Even the VAIO buttons seem be be touch-buttons on metal surface.
Definitely go for Premium. That's one thing EU has better than the US (US only has VAIO Plus display option).

Using Wired Earphones In Headphone/Optical Out Jack Leads To Terrible Noise
Hi
I own a F12 and recently began to use a new F22 2D but ran into a really frustrating and thus far, unsolvable problem. I posted it in the appropriate forum thread but am posting it here too in case there are those who have actually experienced something like it with the older Fs.
The problem is that when I use earphones or headphones in the jack and a bluetooth mouse (Dell Travel BT Mouse), there is a lot of noise in my earphones. The noise is constant, loud and a mixed in with beeps. It just sounds like audio interference of some kind.
I tried using a regular wireless usb nano adapter mouse (MS 3500), and although the noise isn't as bad, there is still low audio noises coming from my earphones. With trackpad only, there is a faint noise still of a static crackle pop, pop, pop, pop, pop with a pause in between each low pop.
I never experienced this issue with my previous generation F12. Is the F22 2D defective, or is this normal in this model? If anybody who uses their F with a bluetooth or wireless mouse with earphones/headphones has also experienced this, please chime in. I am frustrated and don't know what to do. There is no noise from earphones when I am not using a wireless/bluetooth mouse, and unplugging the AC Adapter doesn't make a difference.Last edited by lessmoneymoreprobs; 19th March 2012 at 02:10 AM. Reason: noticed low noise even with trackpad only and mice off
