My Furmark benches didn't change either between 266, 275, and 280. (I didn't run Furmark before 266.) James said he saw new special effects in games though in the 280 version - when he broke glass for instance. I never notice any difference between versions but then again I haven't played games, don't watch a lot of movies on it recently, don't connect it to anything external, so I wouldn't expect to notice anything unless it broke something or there was a major change.

And you were accusing me of hallucinating! You and your "shrooms." Ha!
Oh well, that's too bad there are not new effects but at least it will stop making me wonder endlessly how that happened without a new PhysX engine.

Re: Official Sony Vaio F Series Owners Thread *Part 6*
I thought I'd remind you guys, if you have one of the early Vaio Fs you might want to clean that fan up now. I noticed mine was getting quite noisy (and the machine quite hot!) when running furmark or trackmania - with furmark the GPU hit 86c after a little while!!
With a good cleaning it's remaining steady at 68c in furmark. There wasn't even that much dust on the fan, it wasn't clogged or anything.
You can really tell the difference though! You may have noticed when your machine was new that while crunching (full cpu/gpu time use), it really sucks cold air through the vents on the bottom. Mine wasn't having that feeling anymore. Now it's back
So yea, you might want to - the keyboard sure is a pain in the butt to get off though! lol

Re: Official Sony Vaio F Series Owners Thread *Part 6*
Thanks for the reminder!
I cleaned mine a few months ago, but might as well do it again since I'm going to be taking a friend's laptop apart and cleaning his fan. Man, that thing makes so much racket/heat when idle that I can only imagine it's the fan being clogged that's causing it.
If you thought getting to the fan in the F1 was bad, check this out:
http://www.insidemylaptop.com/remove...0-cq70-laptop/
I gain access to the fan after step 16!!!

Re: Official Sony Vaio F Series Owners Thread *Part 6*
Oh yeah, I'm sure that'd be a pain! I've been in worse though; Toshiba laptops from the 90s are so convoluted inside that I think it's normal to end up with "spare parts" when finished. This happened when I took apart my dad's old Toshiba and I was left with a large random piece of metal. Upon closer inspection I couldn't fathom where it came from. XD

You may find this useful for the compaq. Your link above already has what you need but if you/your friend wants more info on the laptop, here is the manual. Fan replacement is on page 79, probably what insidemylaptop followed. http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01572022.pdf

Well, if you aren't the Service Manual Fairy Godmother, I don't know what you are.
Thanks!!! He's not too techie, but this will be very helpful to me. I'm taking him from a 160GB 5400RPM HDD to my Seagate 500GB 7200RPM. I'm sure his system will be quite snappy after that.
So, been drooling over Alienware lately, after getting annoyed that my gaming on my 310m is so limited. Totally out of my pricerange of about $20. HA! I find it disappointing that none of the r3 models have express card slots. What would I do with my wireless soundcard?
