I didn't have any problems flashing forward and backwards as I pleased.

Anyone notice that Sony released another new BIOS? There was the first BIOS update like the first week of October. 10/6/2011 I think it was, and now there is a new one as of 10/20/2011.

Anyone test this one? I don't recall anyone talking about this newest update.

Yes. tested it and it still had the sata issue. other users reported issues with their battery with that bios.

Is it confirmed that you can flash an older bios? Because it doesn't even accept the same bios, why would it accept an older one?

Because the old one is modified to allow for that (modded version)

My custom vaio sb3 arrived today. I turned it on and it sounds like a vacuum cleaner even when idle. Is there anything that can be done to reduce the noise? I've tried putting it on stamina mode and silent mode, but neither make any difference. I've heard about a BIOS update but my BIOS is R2080H4, which I think is the updated one. Help!

Could you try CTRL-ALT-DELETE, start the Task Manager, sort by CPU usage and see if any of the maintenance utilities (e.g. Vaio Care) is hogging the CPU? That'd explain why the fan is always on.

    R2080H4? I only know of R2081H4 and R2084H4.
Noise Level is mainly due to background software running. Try a clean install of Windows without all the Sony preinstalled crap. My Vaio SA is completely silent when idle or surfing the internet, doing office work etc. All the people complaining about noise at idle just have some software running in the background using lots of cpu power.
