I'm coming back from the store. Like I said in a earlier post, I went to see the Sony E series. I'm sorry to say this but I'm so disappointed. In my opinion (no offence to owners) it's a very cheap looking laptop. It's like a plastic box. The palmrest is a glossy cheap plastic one with SPARKLING shadows. Omg ! Is this a laptop ? I thought I'm going to see a matte laptop with a decent business look. I feel sorry for that good configuration. I was looking so forward for this one...

I'm sorry to hear your disappointment MStefan12, but the last thing EB series is is business notebook. As I said before, I believe it's multimedia laptop mainly for kids/teenagers and woman No offense to male adult owners of course And for that use sparkling palmrest and shiny bright colorful lid is perfect. I just don't understand why they don't offer all colors for FullHD version as well.

If you're looking for business look go for S/Z/B/T. I was truly surprised how good the new S looks like. I really didn't like cheap looking SR after beautiful SZ, but S looks quite nice again

I don't understand why people are still making such a big stink out of the colors: They offer it in matte black! The EB is a mainstream laptop, and Sony is trying to appeal to as wide an audience as possible -- order the "man colors" and get over it.

By the way, I have a nice Sony Bravia TV and it's black plastic has a faint glitter to it. Doesn't mean it's cheap, just gives it a little dimension. Could be much worse, at least it's not covered in terrible urban art like the HPs.

I have a 6yr-old Apple PowerBook Al15" G4 1.25Ghz and it is screaming for replacement. (hardware is still going strong, but can't keep up with the latest software performance-wise).
First place I look is of course another apple, the macbook pro, and i was dissapointed, big time. The only thing thats good from their machine now is the superb aluminum unibody construction and design. The inside? well, i think even apple fanatics agree that it is long overdue for an update.
Luckily i'm not apple fanatics and been using both Mac and Windows.. (don't tell them that, last thing I want is torch-wielding apple villagers showing up at my house )
I had my eyes on the Sony FW55 with P8700 and ATI 4650 ($1350) then moved to the CW for the Core i5 and nVidia 330M spec with the cheaper pricing ($1199) but wasn't sure on the looks. I was also considering Sony F with i5 for $1299 but sadly only available with nVidia 310M.
I am now considering for the E-series, the top offering available for Indonesian market is the EB17FG and only available in glossy black with the Core i3-330M/4Gb/500Gb/ATI Radeon 5650 1Gb with Full HD 1920x1080 screen for $1199.
I think now I am set on this model. I'm wondering if the Core i3 chips is upgradeable in the future with the Core i5 or dual core i7.. and hopefully the ATI 5650 is not underclocked as in Sony FW case.
Coming from Apple, I have a few HDD with firewire interface, I guess i have to buy expresscard -> firewire adaptor

Thank you for your information and picture ota-con I'm re-posting it on one Czech nb board as well ,) The 3dmark06 result is relatively low compared to results of 2core F. But it's probably that i3 processor which is putting it down.

Also the screen looks much better than the low res one. It's true that the color depth and rendition is not so great, but it looks sharp and bright. Did you try any calibration tool on it, like Spyder3?

The full HD EB screen is definitely better than the lower resolution EB one...from what I saw in shops.

I don't have any calibration tools so the screens are as they are from the box.
