Yeah, you're right. The FW design is a true classic I think. It was the first 16:9 blockbuster and the sense for forms and details is just extraordinary. Must be a true designer's work. The follow-up F1 series was a washy, more sturdy version of this idea, with no clear shape. (Also, I find numpads disgusting. ) And the current F2 got this new brutalist wedge form. I had an F12 at first and sent it back in favor of the FW. It's more silent and got a better built quality also.
Agreed. I absolutely love my FW. The only negative I have about it is that the palm-rests are really faded, it is pretty ugly. Anyone know any sort of applicable surfaces to hide it?

And I hope Sony comes out with a true successor to the FW, the current F is a fat ugly pig. Seriously, how can Sony move backwards so much from a sexy design?

I had planned on "upgrading" to a newer laptop quite some time ago... but I realized that I really like the FW a lot. At this point I'd prefer something a tad smaller and lighter, but the FW has pretty much everything I want and need in a laptop.

So what do you currently see on the market that may be an appropriate replacement for the FW (or at least close to it)?

Probably the soon-to-be-released 15" Samsung Series 9. It's kinda like a smaller (14.05 x 9.33"), thinner (0.58"), lighter (only 3.5 lbs), faster (SSD) version of the Sony FW.

Ah yes, I looked into this one. Despite its stylish design and solid build quality, I don't find it a replacement for the FW. Mainly because of the ultra low voltage CPU and integrated Intel GPU.

I was thinking that maybe the 15" Vaio S would be a great alternative but I don't like the cooling design at all (the fan at the back of the screen). The screen on my FW pretty much remains open 24-7 and Sony telling me that's not possible on the S (via a warning in the manual) is absolutely ridiculous.

Hi, I want to ask you if there is some possibility to download/obtain a instalation of Vaio Content Analyzer for Vaio FW450? I have only Win 7 upgrade original DVD´s and Vaio Content Analyzer is not instaled using these DVDs. (I´ve deleted recovery files so .... I´ve re-installed my Win Vista using OEM Vista home x64 DVD and after that I´ve used Sony Win 7 upgrade DVD - everything works fine with exception of Vaio Content Analyzer)

    Thanks for your help.

Yep, I´ve checked Sony support yet - there´s plenty of updates for Content analyzer etc. , but no an original file to install it. I hope that the only way to help me is if someone found instalation file on Vaio FW recovery disc. Cos´ I´ve yet contacted Vaio support via chat and they refused to help ´cos my Vaio FW is out of warranty damn and original recovery discs are not shiped to Europe.
