Re: Official VAIO FW Series Owners Thread
On second thought, the shipping date of October 27th on that Canadian SonyStyle site tells us that this is the "clear-out" period for the FW4s remaining and that the refresh will be out a bit later in the month. Given build time for the FW590 CTOs, I'd say next Monday is the earliest we'll see the refresh in the States.
It's not yet out in Europe and they usually have refreshes before the States do. Here's the UK site to check (https://shop.sonystyle-europe.com/So...W-Series-16-4).
BTW The UK site seems to still be touting an LED screen for at least some European FW4s, an ad "error" one might expect Sony would have corrected after a few months of advertizing. So, we'll see.

Re: Official VAIO FW Series Owners Thread
Exactly. The site is now working properly -- for the models of the FW4 series which are left. Notice there is only one pre-configured model listed at the site. The calm before the storm....
OK...here's what they probably look like: the FW5's from the Sony Asia site:
http://translate.googleusercontent.c...T+PC+Series+FW
(Note the appearance of the HD4570 at the lower resolution in the FW53, and that there are two lower resolution screens, with one called Vaio Display Premium. And here the words "newly-developed" are used to describe the FullHD screen on the FW5 series whereas "Rich Colour"/HiColor? is the descriptor for earlier FW series: http://translate.googleusercontent.c...IlolI5pTw2xpCg) Kind-of does make one think that an LED backlight is likely since HiColor is a CCFL technology.)

Re: Official VAIO FW Series Owners Thread
I think i will get the RMA and wait it out at least a week to see what happens, if nothing I will return this and place another order. Can I do that? Also I already signed up for the Win7 upgrade so will that be canceled once I send back the laptop?
I think the holiday shopping season is about to take off, however weaker it will be because of the economy, so hopefully the refresh takes places sooner rather than later. Also, I don't see two refreshes happening between now and Christmas so if something significant does happen I hope it happens now, lol. At least the timing would be nice for me.
They really should announce a refresh at least a couple weeks before it actually happens."When you attempt to transfer the engine's 600 horsepower to the ground enough tire smoke is produced to affect the weather in China."

Re: Official VAIO FW Series Owners Thread
I have sony vaio vgn-fw21z and I am thinking to replace its hdd drive with a solid state drive(corsair extreme X128).
Does anybody knows if this laptop supports sata2?
Is there any instructions or videos that show how to replace the hdd?
Thank you very much!

Re: Official VAIO FW Series Owners Thread
Hi, does anyone if the VAIO FW-455J uses DDR2 or DDR3 for its ATI 4650 HD?
The description at newegg doesn't say and neither does the product page on sony.com
both just say "1 GB"
here's the link http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834117928
i'm debating between this laptop, and an equivalent asus laptop & an msi, if this is DDR3, i think this wins easily for the price
thanks in advanced!Stolen

Re: Official VAIO FW Series Owners Thread
Dumb question but is using the recovery discs the same thing as formatting the hard drive?
