I tried to upgrade the intel driver but intel website won't let me (I guess agreement with Sony) and sony only has the original driver.

    Anyway to make it work?
If you unistal the X3100 driver frist you can instal a newer one, BUT:
For me on an SZ7 this results in increased temperatures and an increased probability of graphics card crashes -potentially due to overheating.
    Don't ask why.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I was under the impression that the DVI port on the docking station only worked with the Nvidia GPU (in SPEED mode). Maybe that's why you're having problems.

[Sorry for the duplicate information. Looks like SPEEDwithJJ said the same thing ]

What about windows 7? anybody upgrade yet that can tell me if the performace is better?

    thanks

Anyone know the part number for the SZ7 keyboard? I messed my space bar up a little bit (not bad, but slightly annoying) and was hoping to pick up a replacement. Also, will any SZ series keyboard work on an SZ7?

    Thanks!

Go here and input your model number. This will inform you of your keyboard part number.
    https://servicesales.sel.sony.com/ec.../web/index.jsp
Then you can look on Ebay to see if you can get it for cheaper etc.
Is your keyboard space bar too damaged for you not to be able to just buy a space bar on ebay and the latch?

My space bar is working okay right now. But the problem is with the metal slots where the latch attaches to the base of the keyboard. I accidentally bent those and am afraid I may damage them permanently if I ever need to remove the space bar in the future. So I wanted to have the keyboard info handy in case I need to buy a replacement at some point.

    Hello fellow VAIO SZ users.

I've got an SZ691N/X. When I first got it, I downgraded to XP using a guide on these forums. Everything worked great, including FN keys and S1/S2 buttons. I just upgraded my hard drive and installed a fresh copy of Vista. I didn't follow the same guide for installing the drivers/utilities as I did when i installed XP. unfortunately the FN keys, S1/S2 buttons and the VAIO power management all don't work. Will I have to uninstall the sony utilities, then reinstall them following that guide? Can I just do a System Restore to one day before I tried installing them? I don't want to have to reload Vista, as I loaded a bunch of other software before loading the sony utilities.

    Thanks for the help.

i would go w/ the uninstalling sony utilities and reinstalling them in order route. im not a fan of the system restore and it renaming crucial folders sometimes.

Worldwide there are quite a few part numbers (keyboard unit) for the SZ7. (allowing for language and color variations)

    For example:

    1-480-231-21 (US) Black
    1-480-231-31 (USW) Black
    1-480-234-21 (USP) Silver
    1-480-234-31 (USWP)

If you provide your exact model I can give you the part number of the one you want.

    Once you have it:

Go here, paste the number into the search box, select 'part number' from the dropdown list and click the search button.
Please take the Nvidia GeForce Temperature Polls:
8400M GS (SZ series) 8400M GT (FZ series) 8600M GT (AR series)
