I discovered that one of the pins on the CPU that i bought was slightly bent. No wonder why it would not sit flush. The pins and packaging are the same so it should fit even if it does not work as it supposed to.

I also noted the part number of my CPU T9300 processor is SLAQG.

    Ok...

What happens with the new CPU? The P one?

Did you bend the pin back?
    Return it?

    It is going back.
They are really pretty solid those pins and i cannot bend it myself say with a pin. I personally wouldn't like to try anything more forceful on it. Maybe somebody else might have luck doing that though.

rachuk, oh wow! so you were able to get your bios to recognize the 4gb ram you have installed w/ the april 2008 bios. i currently have the may 2007 bios update listed for my vgn-sz440e laptop on sony website unfortunately.(with no other updates listed) i wish i could upgrade my bios so it could recognize the full 4gb dual channel memory i have installed. i have 64bit vista yet only 3gb is recognized in bios right now. do you know the version of the bios you have installed? (ex. R0XXXXX)

DetlevCM i'm not sure yet if i am going to get a refund or a replacement.

b|lly I could have tried to do more of a home DIY fix up but it always seem to end in disaster for me so didn't really attempt it. I have upgraded a CPU before in another laptop without any problems. Only one pin was slightly bent but it was significant enough to prevent the CPU from being seated correctly.

dz2k yes my BIOS does recognise 4GB. I thought that your laptop should also do so in 64bit OS. I have 4GB installed but i am using 32bit OS.

Ok... well, I think its a waste of money if you don't get a refund or a replacement... ???

BIOS - just run Vaio Update and it does the deed with regard to updating the BIOS.

I responded to you and said that i'm unsure whether i am going to actually go for a replacement as I might just go for a refund instead of a replacement.

my may 2007 bios states its reading 3200mb memory. yet, when i boot up windows and right-click computer and go to properties...it reads at 4gb installed. also, if i run cpu-z in windows...it reads 4gb dual channel memory. when i read the description for the bios that rachuk has(R0122S5)
...it states update to "resolve an issue where the system displays an inaccurate value for amount of memory installed." i think that my system IS taking advantage of the 4gb memory i have installed on vista x64!
