Re: ~Sony SZ Owners Lounge~
is it possible to turn off the fan? vaio control center defines 5 levels for fan plus an adaptive fan . . . which one do you use? also my vaio gets hot very soon after boot on the left palm rest side, is yours the same?

Re: ~Sony SZ Owners Lounge~
Left palm rest - that's your HDD.
Unless there is significant dust buildup, it may be an idea to defragment it, and clean up temporary files. But do check for dudt.

Re: ~Sony SZ Owners Lounge~
mine also is running all the time and i thoght its just me and that my laptop has a problem, but it seems that its the case for almost all SZs . . . well that makes it a little more bearable. lol
i aso realized that fan is always on and humming very quietly but when cpu temp reaches 27°C it began to spin faster and become more noticeable . . . till it reduces the temp down to26°C.
i just wish there was a way to make this quiet (vaio control center's fan settings don't work) . . . sigh

Did you see this post as well?
~Sony SZ Owners Lounge~
Without hearing your laptop it is a little hard for me to judge.
I have sensitive hearing and i don't think that is a problem at all. Maybe some people are not expecting to hear a thing if they put their ear to their laptop? It is a quite a powerful laptop. I had issues with a Fujistu laptop not that long ago because of the fans but this laptop is in a different category altogether.
In a quiet room with me laptop using my laptop in bed so it is very close to me my laptop gives me no bother.
I also use my laptop in very quiet places like the library.
Also, if your CPU is working at near max level then again i think it maybe normal for the fan to come on. I heard my fan start up for the first time yesterday when a webpage that i was on spiked my CPU to near max.
In fact the sound when it was on was not that obtrusive.
You said that your first SZ was not like that so maybe some are different i don't know.Last edited by Rachel; 19th October 2008 at 06:18 AM.

Re: ~Sony SZ Owners Lounge~
Thank you rachuk, yes i saw that post and actually that same post was one of the many things that lead me to this laptop. i used my first SZ for almost 4-5 hours but i think it was just like the one "ac500" has or just like yours it was a pleasure to hold and use but its a pitty i got very very picky and changed it for absolutly not a big problem. it was very cold and when using it in bed(almost all of that 4-5 hours lol) i couldnt hear anything at all just like you and ac500 described. right now i regret that i changed it!
this one although i think has slightly better build quality but does get warm very soon and its fan is always on. i have no problem with a bit heat(its very minimal also) but just like you i do have sensitive hearing so fan bothers me . . .
yes maybe there are actually diffrent kinds of this . . .
