I don't know, I do think its running on my SZ though.

However, have a look at the "NVidia issue thread" and consider that if you need battery life you should use the Chipset anyway.

Thank you for that tip! Can you check your gpu speed with gpu-z please? My system is running in 450 MHz always, also when running in battery mode.

    What driver are you using?

    NVidia what's that
(I just never really use the NVidia - for about 2 weeeks after I got the laptop, then that's really it, no need for it)

    So let's see:
    Driver: nvlddmkm 7.15.11.0128 (ForceWare 101.28)/Vista

    AC supply
GPU Core Clock 169.0 MHz (from 275)
    GPU Memory Clock 100.0 MHz

    Battery supply:
    stayed...
    opened start, went up to:
    GPU Core Clock 400 MHz
    GPU Memory Clock 600 MHz

    came down
    GPU Core Clock 275.0 MHz
    GPU Memory Clock 301.0 MHz

    Now down to
    GPU Core Clock 169.0 MHz
    GPU Memory Clock 100.0 MHz

    AC "back in" stayed low.

The problem is though, you open your start Menu and it jumps to maximum performance. That's not good for your GPU - due to the little "NVidia issue"
    See here:
Defective Nvidia chipsets in your current Vaio?

Just thinking though - from your signature I see you are using an SZ1 with I think it was a 7400 grpahichs card? My SZ7 runs on an 8400GS...

****, your gpu stepping is working. Not mine. No idea what i can do. Maybe try an older driver?

No, you can start gpu-z while on power and you can see the speed in this tool. The speed should change i've you disconnect the power supply or if you running a 3d program.

I am thinking about buying the SZ docking station so that i can maybe have the HDMI output if i want to use it maybe once in a blue moon.

I intend to buy a DVI-HMDI cable is this recommended and will the HDMI output be good? I don't want to buy one and then find out that it has no sound or something.

One day i might even thinking about changing my carbon fibre lid to the premium weave version if i can get the part. The black carbon fibre pattern is ok but i like the brown one more i think.

    Edited to add:
I have read that apparently the quality for DVI-HDMI is exactly as the same as the quality you will get if you use HDMI-HDMI so then HDMI is an option for the SZ and SR models.

I did a clean install of xp on my sz and the wireless switch doesnt seem to work. Any idea on whats the problem?

Also, if i deleted vista from my computer w/o backing it up, I can't install it back right? and the vista registration code on the bottom of the laptop is useless?

You could still order the recovery discs. Not too sure though.
