Re: ~Sony SZ Owners Lounge~
Hi leslieann.
I tried your method, EVERYTHING works great, even the brightnes (which didn't before) however the switch still won't switch, when i got to step 17 and restarted...nothing at all
The switched worked perfect before i reinstalled windows 7 last time, so nothing has changed, seems a little more than coincedence that the switch would stop working after i installed software?

Re: ~Sony SZ Owners Lounge~
It's still likely a software issue.
I would try making a drive image, and see if a fresh install works.

Re: ~Sony SZ Owners Lounge~
Thanks again on the help.
This is about the 3-4th fresh install and attempt to reinstall drivers.
Wheni followed your guide i did thiswith a fresh install, Reinstalled windows and attempted your guide, everything but he switch works great.
I was hoping hat someone would be willing to run off a ghost image of their HDD or a backup CD.
Hopefully that SHOULD fix the issue.

Re: ~Sony SZ Owners Lounge~
Hi all,
Long time lurker and owner of a good-as-new Australian SZ15 (SZ1). I've installed a Crucial SSD and it works so well I can't see any need to replace it for many years. Helped by the beautiful design.
Just wondering if anyone has a copy of a BIOS for the Napa SZ with advanced menu enabled? I have seen murmurs and a version for Santa Rosa, but no hard links.
I'm not referring to the VT/AHCI hack although the menu seems to include those things:

Thanks.Last edited by treffmeister; 7th July 2012 at 01:13 PM.

Re: ~Sony SZ Owners Lounge~
Anyone ever shoved the power lead in too far? Did it the other day, had a look and the inner pin bit was "up" near the 12 o'clock position inside the housing, and the machine wouldn't charge any more. I haven't gotten around to opening up the machine, but was wondering if anyone here had done this and so could give pointers as to what I've broken.

Re: ~Sony SZ Owners Lounge~
Hi Craig,
I am assuming that the device doesn't even appear in the hardware listing? I've broken my machine so can't really help right now, but try sticking a live cd in of a linux distro and see if that can recognise the GPU - if it can, you can definitively say that Windows is the problem. I've run Win7 on the SZ before and the Nvidia was definitely enabled, but I have a vague recollection that the switch was in the wrong position compared to the install guide! You could always try that?
When I fix mine, I'm probably changing OS's so will chuck W7 on it to have a look at the GPU install process for you.

Re: ~Sony SZ Owners Lounge~
Hi CraigRobbo,
I just put my machine back together, made sure the switch was in the slot correctly and set to stamina, then installed 64bit Win7. The only updates I ran from the guide was the registry hack to recognise the Nvidia GPU, then flicked the switch, downloaded and unpacked the 64bit file leslieann linked to in her guide (NOT the official Nvidia driver!) and overwrote the GPU driver. All works as expected after the reboot...
Make sure you use the right architecture compared to the version of OS you have. That's the only thing I can think of which might've gone wrong.
Cheers

Re: ~Sony SZ Owners Lounge~
Has anyone replaced the fan on their SZ? Mine's been making funny noises since 2009 and I've just put up with it but it would be nice to quieten it down a bit.
