Re: Samsung 830 SSD
Maybe on price but reliability I don't think so. Any word on availability yet? I want to get this ASAP....

Re: Samsung 830 SSD
The Samsung is primarily a 7mm drive yet also includes a spacer to increase the size to 9mm. The M4 is undoubtedly very good but being 9mm means modifications are req'd to fit 7mm drive caddies...ok fair enough, it just means taking out the spacer but finding the right screws can be a bummer. I'm definitely getting the Samsung 830 256gb for my soon-to-arrive Thinkpad X220

Its due to be released mid October so not long to go now

Re: Samsung 830 SSD
Anyone know if the consumer version of the 830 is going to be a self encrypting drive like the oem PM830. I can't seem to find an answer anywhere.

Re: Samsung 830 SSD
I like the model but I think they need to fix their random read/write performance for these drives, perhaps it's a firmware issue but those numbers are really poor for a SATA III SSD because even it's predecessor has a leg up on it in both accounts. I mean, if you are going to use the space for storage then by all means, that doesn't matter but most of us aren't so I think Samsung kind of screwed up with this model. I recently purchased the Samsung 470 and it has some real impressive feats over my previous Seagate Momentus and I mean by leaps and bounds.

Re: Samsung 830 SSD
I really doubt that You need more then 150 MB/s 4KB random writes in high queue depths, and that's only benchmark in witch Samsung 830 is noticeably slower then competition.

Re: Samsung 830 SSD
It's Random Write speeds are abhorrent setback for the drive but I'm hoping that a firmware fix can actually fix this issue without a problem. Although it's random read speeds are good enough for competition, they do not under any circumstances out-perform it's predecessor, the Samsung 470.

Re: Samsung 830 SSD
Anyone seen this yet? I can't find it anywhere yet, it might be delayed. Perhaps someone in USA could call Samsung's SSD dept and ask them the release date of the 830 range? 1-800-726-7864
