Samsung 830 SSD

I got my Samsung 830 256gb ssd from newegg yesterday, attempted to use norton ghost to clone the drive but it didn't work so well. Forgot to install bootloader. Just did a clean install and am now re-installing all the drivers for laptop and then it's on to re-installing games.

My drive came with a card and serial number for the game, looks like it's downloadable. Will find out once I'm satisfied everything's A+ after I'm done with clean install.

Did you also get a free copy of Batman Arkham City? And if so have you had the opportunity to download it yet? I'm just curious how easy a process it is and what digital store they are using to provide the game....

My ssd is actually missing the code . . . all attempts to to resolve with Newegg and Samsung havent worked yet. Will try again tomorrow - frustrating . . .

update: in progress with Samsung. we'll see what happens, but keep your fingers crossed. The drive works great though so far.

does anybody know how fast is 830 128gb on SATA II? Is it worth buying to notebook with SATA II or better buy something less expensive on SATAII (470, Intel 320). I am asking because I don't know if my notebook supports SATA III. It is ProBook 6465b.

SATA III is backwards and forwards compatible with anything, as long as it fits it works; and there isn't much of a price difference between them; might as well go for something newer that can be stuffed into a newer computer.

I ordered a 64GB one off newegg, I could run some SATA II tests when when actually get the thing.

Personally im very dissapointed with an SSD, in general.
I don't know if its because of the chipset or the CPU or something, but the general "feel" is maybe 20-30% more "snappier".

Maybe its because this is my first SSD, but comparing to my Scorpio Black 500GB i had before its not very impressive.

I did all the tweaks and tuneups, but really only the benchmarks show me its an SSD inside and not Scorpio...

Some of the main strengths of an SSD are in booting, launching applications and multi tasking. A fast SSD launches applications about 300% faster than a 500GB/7200rpm HDD, under multi tasking stress about 500% (source).

If you don't often do these things, I can understand your computer doesn't feel much faster.

Did you do a clean install?

What is your notebook exactly?

Its a HP laptop with a dual core turion (griffin), 780g chipset, 4GB of DDR2 and Win7 Ultimate x64.

The only thing i didn't do is a clean install, but i keep my system clean and optimised all the time, and i did all the neccessary steps before and after cloning the system parititon to an SSD.
I do have in plan to do a clean install after my 2nd HDD caddy for the Scorpio arrives, so i won't discard the SSD just yet.

Boot time has improved maybe for a few seconds, not really noticable unless you time it.
Apps launch is also not noticeably faster, except the bigger apps like Photoshop for example, where you can feel the improvement, but nothing to write home about...

To be honest, i felt more improvement after i replaced my original Toshiba 5400rpm drive with the Scoripo 7200rpm.

I don't know... i'll decide what to do with it after the clean install,
if things dont improve i'll probably sell it.
Luckily i got it for 190$, day after i bought it price went up to 280$ here lol
