the defrag part will not run in Win 7 with an SSD installed.

Thatoe, yes, that's my experience also (used PerfectDisk and Patriot.exe (wiper.exe) because of the 'problem' I pointed out to davepermen in the link above.

    See:
    SSD's; The Myth Exposed.

    for more details.
and even while the defrag part might not run, having the batch at hand is best. sometimes, one uses it on an ssd where the defrag doesn't matter. sometimes on a hdd, where it does.

and btw, file defrag is still a nice thing, even on an ssd. having to go through several hops in the nfts file system to collect the info where to actually to read the boot files from will sure not GAIN you performance.

Oh yes, I always have it on my usb key as a quick fix on computers I have to use.

But if the Win 7 detection of an SSD disables the boot time defrag - then the command to processidletasks skips some of the benefits that running that process normally has too. (As can be seen by an Analyze of the disk map in PerfectDisk; there are no 'boot' files).

On the Torqx though, the consolidate free space option in PerfectDisk 10 actually slowed the drive down. Hmmm....

Not to mention that it took 45 minutes to run (on 46GB of data).

no one uses perfectdisk really. marketing crap, placebo..

the boot time defrag and the processidletasks are independent, dunno how you want to see skipping the LATER one affects the FIRST one, but well.. i don't care. it helps, never hurts.

    Your X-25M G2 160GB has firmware 02G9:

You need firmware 02HA for the Auto TRIM command plus the increased sequential write speeds.

Intel has made an announcement back on November 16th, 2009 that the 02HA firmware will be re-released by the end of the month. Just hang tight!

    davepermen,

you are really showing how little you know. I'm shocked!

One of the processidletasks functions is to collect information from the O/S so that it knows which files are used for boot and then the second 'defrag c: -b' command uses that information to put them in the fastest part of the disk.

As for PerfectDisk - sure, it's a placebo that makes a computer that one owner thought was 'virus ridden' to a smooth, quiet (no more HD head chatter) and yes, even Faster computing experience.

But don't test it on your mechanical drives (if you still have any)...

perfectdisk wants money for it's placebo. yes, it's a placebo, as its a defraggler which defrags for high performance for the first some days. afterwards, you have to continue to run it so often that you spend more time using it than you could ever have gained. so far, free to use defraggler beats it at the long-time-performance of it's defragmentation, and, at it's price.

and no, i don't even defrag mechanical drives. they are mostly data hives anyways. they are in my home server.

about processidletasks. well, nice to know, but, then again.. for what do i need to know that, again, exactly? it works, it works well, even on ssds. maybe one task is useless, maybe not. it still works.

    So, any more idea???
I"m sure it's not hardware problem. It was fast and suddenly went slow these days.
and installing/copying stuffs is still fast. it's just when i'm browsing the files.
CrystalDiskMark still shows the same speeds.
