Re: SSD Thread (Benchmarks, Brands, News, and Advice)
Thanks for the info! That helps.
Looks like Sandforce released some sort of update in December of last year to address the BSOD issue. Was that update not sufficient? Seems like it has been out there for months now. I wonder how the feedback is.
Do you know what controller the X-25M G2 used? I couldn't find out definitively by searching Google.I have a notebook.

Re: SSD Thread (Benchmarks, Brands, News, and Advice)
The update late last year by Sandforce was the first time they even admitted there was a problem with the controller (in nearly a year with the 22xx controller)...and yes, it fixed a lot of the problems, but no where near all. Feedback has understandably improved, but it is still low compared to basically every other controller on the market, since a lot of people still have BSOD issues.
The early Intel drives (320 and before) used Intel's own in-house controllers. They were good ones.Laptop: XPS l702x | i7-2720QM | Nvidia 555m + Intel HD 3000 (Optimus) | 8GB 1333MHz (Corsair) | 1080p AG (no-3D) | Intel 6230 WiFi | Crucial M4 256GB SSD | Seagate 500GB 7200RPM | Backlit KB | 9-cell Battery | Blu-Ray Reader/DVD+CD Burner

Re: SSD Thread (Benchmarks, Brands, News, and Advice)
Very interesting. Maybe this is neither here nor there, but it makes you wonder: why did Intel stop making their own controllers?
Thanks again for the info, I'm looking at the samsung or maybe the 510 with the marvell controller!I have a notebook.

Re: SSD Thread (Benchmarks, Brands, News, and Advice)
OCZ's I would call squiggly integration
It's all over the map! I have hopes that the Indilinx will prove out as a good controller, but my experiences with OCZ's CS left a bad taste...
Intel went away from their own controllers last year with the 510 launch, and I have to agree it was a disappointment. The original thoughts were they just used the Marvell for the 510 to get a SATA 3 drive on the market while their in-house one was delayed. That appears to no longer be the case with their move to Sandforce...Laptop: XPS l702x | i7-2720QM | Nvidia 555m + Intel HD 3000 (Optimus) | 8GB 1333MHz (Corsair) | 1080p AG (no-3D) | Intel 6230 WiFi | Crucial M4 256GB SSD | Seagate 500GB 7200RPM | Backlit KB | 9-cell Battery | Blu-Ray Reader/DVD+CD Burner

Re: SSD Thread (Benchmarks, Brands, News, and Advice)
Well, I know OCZ's ultimate intent is to have Indilinx design controllers, guess that's the next step after writing firmware for Marvell (Everest) and then customizing Marvell silicon (Everest 2). They've got their own branded NAND now....but there's this [B]tiny[B] little matter of not having their own fab.
Then again, they are one of the big 4 when it comes to SSDs. And I've got to say this Vertex 4 is great. They should be OK so long as they stay clear of SandForce.
I still keep hoping Intel will go back to their own controllers. They made nice drives. Samsung never impressed me much, and the Crucial is getting long in the tooth, but SandForce is really scary: I'd never trust those in the machines I support, even if it does have an Intel label on it.RAID0 = Rickety Array of Inreliable Disks..Oh.

Re: SSD Thread (Benchmarks, Brands, News, and Advice)
Hi, I installed Samsung 830 256gb ssd to my laptop today.
After fresh installing windows, I tried a quick crystaldiskmark run and my random speeds seem off.
The bios is set to AHCI.
Please take a look and see if these speeds are acceptable.
