Default resource conflict with IBM wireless card...

hi, Im having an issue with the inbuilt IBM wireless adapter on my IBM T23. I can get it to work most of the time, however after Ive plugged in a LAN cable, the wireless adapter refuses to perform. On restarting the machine, a resource conflict appears during POST.. One of the only ways to "resolve" the issue is to remove the wireless utility and reinstall it. This works the majority of times however in some cases it still wont. I am able to connect an external Bluetooth adapter and connect to bluetooth devices, and I am able to connect via the RJ45 port to a router. When I go to the ThinkVantage Access connection wizard, it says the adapter is not found. Can anyone offer a suggestion as to how to overcome this on going, frustrating problem..... I am running XP pro SP2. In shear frustration I have installed a Netgear USB wireless adapter, which works all of the time..... just not as practical as the inbuilt IBM card. All help greatly appreciated. Cheers.

If you look at the drive status, most of the time it will tell you what it is conflicitng with. Look in you BIOS and see if yo have a setting that says "Using Plug n Play OS" You want this set to NO. MS has NEVER BEEN ABLE TO MANAGE HARDWARE. Setting to NO lets the BIOS set the hardware, this is what you want.

If not try to find out buy looking at the conflicting iqr. CP -> System -> Hardware -> properties then resources. It will tell all the info you need. Just compare the 2. IQR are shared by hardware, but on NB you do not have all of the HW as a desktop, so use the printer port or second serial port. Select a iqr that is not used very ofter or is not used in junction with the hw in conflict.

Hope this helps.

thanks blue68f100, went through that process and selected IRQ's to Auto, letting the BIOS decide when to poll the device. Thanks for the suggestion. It seems to work more frequently now ....... however now, for NO reason, the wireless adapter just stops communicating, the associated ThinkVantage controller advising me I have no reception..... even a few feet/metres from the wireless router (all encryption etc as it should be). The association status is unknown to the router and no matter what I do other than restarting the machine, I cannot reinstate connectivity. Im finding that Im spending almost all my battery life trying to rectify the problem rather than doing the tasks I set out o do..... The Netgear wireless adapter is certainly getting its work out .. flawlessly. Can anyone please me help with this.........

If you have the latest drives, try using the MS Zero Config. Check you energy settings so the power is not being cut back or turned off.

May try disabling it then turning it back on.

Who is the mfg of the built-in one and model. Some intel's have been having driver problem. If it a Ralink, it junk, what's in mine.
