Default Hold your breath...Asus G1 Specs and Pricing Released!

OK, don't know if that was their intention, but Asus just made this announcement...if you buy their motherboard you will be entered into a contest where you could win...yes, Asus G1...the ultimate gaming notebook, according to Asus. They list it as $1799 value along with the specs:

G1 -- The Ultimate Gaming Notebook

15.4” WSXGA+ 1680*1050 256K Color Max
▪ Intel Core 2 Duo T7200 Processor with 4MB On-Die L2 Cache
▪ NVIDIA GeForce Go 7700 512MB
▪ Extreme Gaming Chassis and Keyboard
▪ SATA 160G 5400 RPM
▪ 1.3 MegaPixel Video Camera with LED
▪ ASUS Direct Messenger
▪ The Best Warranty in the Industry

Not a bad value, but definitely nothing ultimate about it, I think. Here is the link, guys, check for yourself: http://usa.asus.com/event/Buy_Win/buy_n_win.html

What do you think?

At $1799 USD I guess I can add the G1P to my list of notebook possibilities along with the V1Jp and the MBP. Although the G1P may well be too heavy for my needs.

I guess the green LEDs for the G1P does stand for nVidia and the red LEDs in the G2P for ATI. Hopefully they'll boost the specs of the G2P since a 1440x900 resolution and a X1700 doesn't seem to cut it against the G1P's 1680x1050 and Go 7700. Although the GPU choice may be okay if the X1700 is clocked a lot higher than the Go 7700, and the announced X1700 clock speeds are very aggressive 460MHz core/ 495MHz memory. The thing is, the only ATI GPU faster than the X1700 is the X1800 which is beginning to look a bit old against the Go 7900 and Go 7950.

I told you The G2p would be higher end performance than the W2p, the G1's specs are high for it's size.... especially for that price point..... The G2's specs are bound to be ridiculous.

Note the MCE OS...... leads me to believe this unit will have a tv tuner in it.... Asus won't make an MCE system without one...

Hmm, this is like a a8js in 15.4" package (higher res screen, more weight) with a slicker build quality. In fact, the a8js woud may outperform this unit playing games in their respective native resolutions barring some extra tinkering on the part og the g1p.

OMFG! /cry! this thing is a BEAST!, unfortunately i'm looking into something that is more discrete, more battery life, thinner and lighter, but still being able to game well, like the V1JP and MBP with C2D.

I am school student so having a flashing light laptop would not be ideal plus if it is heavy or significantly thicker that wouldn't be so good for portability.

In my opinion this is a GREAT DTR for someone who likes to game and travel without worrying too much about portability and batterylife.

GJ ASUS on creating an awsome specced machine, and not going overboard with it and it's pricing!

Thanks,

MysticGolem

In regards to the G2P, I know you've said the G2P will be configured higher. I was just curious as to what higher ATI GPU it could use assuming it'll stick with an ATI part. Perhaps there is a Mobility X1900 in the works and the G2P will be the launch platform. There have been rumours of a M68 Mobility X1900 and ATI would certainly like to launch something to draw attention away from the G80 launch.

In regards to the TV tuner, I believe the product manuals, on the G2P at least, do mention ports for a TV tuner. Seeing that the G1P look to be available for Christmas and before Vista, including MCE is probably ASUS's way to allow an upgrade path to Vista Home Premium rather than Vista Business if they went with XP Pro.

Well... I can say this... I doubt it'll really be "out" before christmas... this is a contest and we're probably looking at February before anything ships out or the model is really available here for sale. This is just Asus' way of approaching their gamer base by linking their desktop enthusiast mobo's with the new G series laptops... and a good way to do so as well..... It also certainly doesn't hurt the sales of those motherboards either.

We'll have to see exactly what goes down.... I just wouldn't count a purchase prior to the end of the year...

I think Asus usually takes a LONG time after announcing to actually release the product, in my opinion.

It looks great, and the specs are great, and price is perfect. This laptop will definitely give Dell's XPS and Alienware a run for their money.
