Default ThinkPad x60s with a Samsung 205BW 20" Widescreen Monitor

Hi,

I've just bought a Samsung 205BW 20" Widescreen 1680x1050 monitor to server as an external display for my ThinkPad x60s.

No matter what I try I can't seem to make it show me widescreen resolutions in the display control panel. It just gives me the regular 800x600 and 1024x768 choices.

Obviously the x60s is connected via a VGA cable since it doesn't have DVI.

I'd really appreciate any help with this!

Lots of thanks to all the helpful gurus,
Shap!

Sounds like a video card driver issue. Make sure you have the latest video card driver.

I just read about this somewhere. I believe you have to go into your monitor control panel settings and set the 20-incher as your "primary" monitor, then set the resolution to whatever you want. The person who posted this said he had to set this manually every time, alas.

maybe its because of the widescreen display and the standard display notebook.. or am i just hungry?

i once tried the same thing...only kind of in reverse... connecting a toshiba satellite(widescreen) into a dlp projector (standard aspect).

You can not set the external monitor's resolution because of the VGA connection. It will do it automatically when you have a DVI out put.
