I'm thinking of water cooling using a swiftech h20 120 premium system with red liquid to go with a black case and windows. I will post picks and specs when I'm finished. I have about 3-4k to work with and need a new desktop so here goes

Thanks for all of the replies! Very interesting stuff!

dragonesse
: I definately agree with you that the modularity of Ultra's PSU is awesome, that is the reason I have been checking them out in the first place.

aer0sense:
Is $100 cheap for a PSU, I actually though it was a little on the high side, but well worth it IMO.

warlord:How is the 1Ghz overclock on the Dothan, does it work well?

otaku: Definately post some pics when you are done, you are going to have an amazing machine with a 3-4k budget!

It scales fine. I'm sure that if I had a better compatable motherboard it'd easily reach 3.0Ghz.

Here's a screnie of it at 1.86Ghz when it was still in my laptop (pinmod o/c from 1.4Ghz):

Here's a sc of it @ 2.35Ghz on the desktop:

$100 is indeed cheap for a PSU. Some people I know have spent as much as a processor on the power supply and Im pretty sure for a reason. Its like the heart of the CPU if it dies your pretty much screwed
Thats why Im looking for a decent company like OCZ for the power supply. I replied to your message.

CPU: AMD Opteron 165 at 2.7ghz
Heatsink/Fan: Great Typhoon
PSU: FSP 450W
MotherBoard: DFI Ultra-D
Memory: 2 GB GSkill Performance DDR500
Hard Drive: 2x Western Digital Caviar 250gb in RAID 0 (poor man's Raptor lol)
Graphics: 7900GT
Speakers: Logitech X530
Sound: Creative X-Fi XtremeMusic
Monitor: Dell 2007FP (20') and an old Eizo Flexscan L66 (18')
Case: Antec P180

PSU isnt all about money, its about quality. You can get a really good one with no bells and whistles for quite cheap. I got mine for $50 bucks and Iv never had any problems while Iv seen people on computer OC forums that has problems with much more expensive ones.

I have never paid money for a PSU. I have owned a 350watt and 400watt PSU. (In previous computers). I have never had any problems. I even have my computer running for several days straight. I needed a bit more wattage for my new WD 160GB drive, so I also ordered a 480watt Demon Blue PSU. $19 shipped!

So from what I have been gathering, the DFI Lanparty boards are good if you want to have the abillity to tweak every piece of hardware, is that correct?

Yeah... but they aren't for beginners. I prefer ASUS. Had a bad experience with a DFI NF4.

Heatsink: Thermalright XP-90 w/ 92mm Thermaltake Silentcat
RAM: 2GB Corsair XMS

Video: eVGA 7900GT
PSU: OCZ Powerstream 520W
Motherboard: ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe
Optical: BenQ Lightscribe DVD-+RW DL
Sound: Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Music
Speakers: Logitech Z4
