The other thing history generally proves (I can name SO many examples, can't think of one to the contrary) is when a company has a great product, they all but help leak info about it to generate hype and buzz.
This feel similar to the heroic bomb of a desktop
Dell has in the XPS 730. Took forever to find out what their 'new' desktop refresh to the XPS desktop line was and lagged so far behind other companies that it seems Nahalem would be out before they would refresh.
It finally came out and was ridiculed even by Dell fanbois. Now mind you most serious gamers or hardcore users I know all build their own anyway (don't know a single one who doesn't, including myself), but if you WERE to buy one and waited, you would have been very dissappointed.
So maybe Dell flopped on this attempt at a refresh and it is why it's taken so long (no other single reason can explain it if you are in business to make money) and maybe they have finally corrected enough of the flaws to make it 'sellable'.
Hopefully it won't turn into the outcry that was on the forums here and elsewhere after their XPS 630 attempt.
I bought and returned two of those and Dell was so desperate that when I wanted to return the second one with 11 issues, 7 of which tech support sent an email addmitting they don't know how to fix [fans, lights, etc. etc.] and have no answer anytime soon, Dell offered me 45% off of it!!!!! I still kept that email

BTW this wasn't for me but for my wife's younger brother. I was too busy to spend time building one for him and then having to support it but in hindsight...
So we shall see, but I'm not holding my breath. And more so, I'll be curious to see what issues it has once it does ship, if it ever does.
I'm hoping for the best but in analyzing the only data we have, something just doesn't feel right.
And with the DV5T winning laptop of the year in both CPU magazine and Laptop magazine [in it's respective class], at least there is a proven track record there. But I am so scared of HP's service record (go read their forums) and Consumer Reports ranking them as awful (D- I think) that I rather take my chances with Dell's support if possible.
I wish laptops were at the point where we could easily build our own like desktops. They are almost there with more and more component options but I think it will be another 2 years or so before you see as many being built as pre-ordered.
Ughhh!
