Re: Notebooks with MXM
Spoke to Evesham, seems only their top range laptop, Voyager C720 has an MXM slot, so I stuck again.

Anyone know any more laptops sold in UK with an MXM slot?
Thanks

Re: Notebooks with MXM
Fujitsu Amilo M3438G has nvidia 6800go with MXM III.
Edit:forgot to mention that Amilo model is 17" wide screen.
Rockdirect's " Xteme CT " has also used the same Clevo chesis as Sager 5720 and Evesham's Voyager C720.
btw, i have read a review on trustedreview.com on c720, and as far i can remember C720's gpu is NOT MXM.

Just to clarify this point...MXM is nvidia's socket technology. Axiom is ATI's...however, they don't exclude the other from using it.
It appears MXM is more popular. My notebook(Gateway 8510GZ) has an MXM3 slot in it. It comes with a 64MB x700. So I can upgrade to any MXM3 capable video card that will physically fit(which is the biggest issue).
You need to verify your slot though. The Gateway M680 series(which my laptop is based on) originally only offered the ATI x700 in 64MB and 128MB solutions. Later on, they added the 6800Go as an option. Two gateway reps(both different people) posted on two different web sites that there was a motherboard revision for this. Some have surmised that the original board only had a MXM2 slot on it and Gateway had a new version and just added a MXM3 to it, as Gateway stated previous M680 owners could NOT upgrade to the 6800Go. Now...this has not been confirmed...but it makes sense. Luckily for me, my laptop appears to have the newer style motherboard(which they're probably using on all the models now). So if you have a Gateway of similar lineage, but it was purchased before the 6800Go was available...you'll need to confirm you have an MXM3 slot...and not an MXM2. It may not be true that the socket was changed...but we don't know for sure yet.

Re: Notebooks with MXM
Right - MXM was originally developed by Nvidia, and AXIOM by ATI. I have seen that ATI is using their chips on MXM boards, as you are saying. Interesting.
Hopefully ATI will keep up with AXIOM - that's what my notebook is. It is very neat - I opened it up and glanced at it, took out the card - very cool indeed.

Re: Notebooks with MXM
@ dizzyegg, actually i found that rock's machine is less expensive then voyager's model. cuz, the price they mentioned in their site include a 1440X900 screen. and for a WSXGA+ you have to pay around 150 punds more, which comes as standard with CT. if you customize both laptop you will see the difference. but it's pretty sure both will cost around 1500 pounds with 2Ghz PM, 1GB Ram, 80GB HD, WSXGA+ screen, go 7800GTX, dual layer dvd writer, and the other basic stuffs.

yea, thats the thing, im not too fussed about a 7800, a 6600 would do me as long as its upgradeable.
Thanks

Re: Notebooks with MXM
You should check out if the Quanta MW1 is available in your area. I just bought one myself, and it's awesome. It has the MXM II
FYI.
