Default Horrible HP screens!

Well, got L2000 with 14.1 screen w/ Brightview. I was very disappointed to find out what a horrible screen it is. No not because of glare, but because it has "sparkles" and text is not very sharp. I have Fujitsu S6231 and even Dell 700 to compare and both of them have great screens, but not this...

Well, the L2000 isn't in the same class as the Fujitsu and the Dell i700 is one of their best screens ever. It still should be crisp though. We have an L2000 and it looks very nice, but not terribly even. I'd swap it out if I were you.

Make sure your screen settings are correct (1280x768x32bit at 60Hz I believe). You might try turning ClearType font smoothing on and off to see which setting you prefer, ClearType works best on high-pixel-density displays.

Hmm....My L2000 Brightview looks very good. None of the issues you mention.

Check the settings or exchange it.

My L2005 looks quite good - the text is sharp and contrast is really nice. If you focus on the upper part of the screen, though, the taskbar may look a bit dim. Probably this is what Brian calls "not terribly even".

The HP screens I have seen have been pretty good. Perhaps as noted you got a lemon.

Hi all, I'm new here.

Yesterday I bought the Compaq V2000Z, Sempron 3000+ with the ATI Xpress 200M chip. My screen DOES NOT have the bright view option.

I do, however, have to concur with Klas.. the screen has like sparkles.. its really strange looking. I thought that the black sheet of paper that was covering the keyboard might had something to do with it.. so I cleaned up the screen with a special little dampened cloth but no dice. I tried to play with the settings but couldn't found an improvement.

What I did noticed was that the settings has only a display rate of 60 HZ and detects the lcd display as "TV display" . There is another setting called predetermined monitor.. but makes no difference at all. I also noticed that the display has NO color profile selected.. there are none installed. I'm not sure if this is a factor.

I have had 2 previous Compaq laptops.. one from 1997 and one from 2001 (Windows 95/Windows XP respectively) and this screen looks with the same quality as in the 1997 one... it has the sparkles. If you see it with a white background (as opening a Word document) you can observe the lcd display has like dirt.. at first sight is not that bad.. but when you get into detail you can tell the display has sparkles.

Maybe, if the HZ can be pushed a bit it could help the overall screen quality.. do you guys have also 60 hz in the display rate? Another probability is that the quality of the lcd isn't up to par. After all, this is a budget laptop and I get what I payed for.

This morning I went back to Office Depot (were I bought it from) and looked at the one they had on display. It has the exact same sparkles.. but were like disguised with the white lightning. I didn't even bothered of making an argument with the sales people.

If you guys also have the 60 hz display setting, then most than probable this lcd display isn't up to par. Any clues?

thanks in advanced

No sparkles here. I don't think the display goes above 60 Hz.

HP's BV screens shouldn't have the infamous "sparkles" on them, but they are consistently the least bright of all the glossy type screens.

Oh well, increased mem to 1.25 GB and video memory to 128 MB.. I still haven't found anything that could help me see a better screen. I will hook it up to lcd monitor and see the results (I predict there won't be any sparkles on the external monitor).

Thanks everyone for their input.
