Default Linksys wrt600n range issues

I just bought a linksys wrt600n router. I was replacing a belkin pre-n router that had begun to drop a lot. I bought this one cuz I had read there is none better. It connects great 3' away. My xps w/ N card connects at 270Mbps on the 5ghz. The other laptops connects on G 2.5ghz or A @ 5ghz. All is good but the range sucks. I can not connect in my living room w/ any computer on any band. I have one bar that drops off/on. W/ my belkin I had 3 bars.....any suggestions? I have wpa2 aes security. I am returning the thing tomorrow if i can not get it improved.

well, this thing is going back. did not get any advice. I re-installed my belkin pre-n (which everyone says is garbage) and I now have internet throughout my house again. for a company that does not make decent products i can not complain. as for the linksys......the install wizard is a joke. did not set a single thing correctly. I have to admit it was blazzing fast w/ in 10ft but not very useful for a house. I get "excellent" connection on our g and n cards, granted 54Mbps, in the living room and could not even connect w/ the linksys. oh, well. since being benched for 2 days the belkin has not dropped wireless. it may have gotten its' job back. if it starts dropping i think i will try the d-link 655

5ghz bandwidth does not penetrate walls as well as the 2.4 ghz, so your may be shorter depending one if your old router used the MIMO technology.

the old router had mimo 2.4gz. i thought 5gz N was supposed to have much more range....i guess maybe in an empty field.

I tried all channels and auto. I tried different security settings. I am going to take it back. Come find out my drops may be charter DSL and not my router. I am going to run some test tonite to determine who is responsible before spending more money.
