Default SP1 problems with certain Sony Drivers

There is a list of specific drivers in an article on ZDNet from Ed Bott:http://blogs.zdnet.com/Bott/?p=400

If you have ANY of these drivers and are about to (or already have) installed SP1 you might want to update your drivers. I know the FZ190 folks have one of the SigmaTel drivers affected (I do), unless you have visited esupport.sony.com recently to get updates. (BTW there is a newer SigmaTel driver for us FZ190 folks on esupport.sony.com dated 12/2007 if I remember correctly.)

Check your drivers folks!!!

Sony Asia/Pacific bought out some updates for the software that comes with their laptops earlier this month, I believe it was directed at Vista Service Pack One.

OK, ran into a big problem. I have a TZ90 and Dynamism now puts a hidden Acronis recovery partition on the 32GB SSDs that takes up about 5GB, and since SP1 requires 4GB to install, I don't have enough space.

I'm going to have to contact Dynamism and see if I can remove the partition and reclaim that space, although I'm afraid that won't be possible without doing a clean install, which I'm not interested in.

you can recapture that space by using Acronis TrueImage or Partition Magic. I've had good luck resizing partitions on Vista with Acronis TrueImage Home.

Without reinstallation right? OK, will give it a try.

The driver problem is discussed at KB948343. Presence of these drivers (in particular Sigamatel Audio and Upec biometric) will prevent the instalation of Vista SP1 Via Windows update.

In the event you want to install updated drivers, I have found the following drivers: at:ftp://ftp.vaio-link.com/PUB/VAIO/ORIGINAL/

For Upek:SZ7_FINGERPRINT_SENSORDRIVER.ZIP

For Sigmatel:AR6_AUDIO_DRIVER2.ZIP

I installed these on my SZ330 this evening. The Upek looks like a pretty safe bet as it is only one file. The Sigmatel driver is a whole different thing, but it appears to be working without issue. A few days testing will tell. Both drivers installed without errors. Actually, the older drivers mentioned in KB948343 appeared to be working, but reading that article put me on notice.
