Acer 4315-2963 Shows GM965 Chipset in CPU-Z
It supposed to have a GL960 according to the user's manual. But it Shows GM965 in CPU-Z.
Does this mean I can go 4GB and Core 2 Duo for sure? Does Vista Basic support 4gb's of memory? Thx for a new laptop noob.
Attached are the screenshots.

Re: Acer 4315-2963 Shows GM965 Chipset in CPU-Z
Boma, I upgraded my friends 4315 to a T5450 C2D processor a few weeks ago...she has the GL960 chipset.
So "IF" you have the GL960, you still can upgrade to a core 2 duo. T5450 works!

NO!!!
Vista basic, and home premium will only recognize the fist 3.5GB of your physical RAM, the rest, just gets wasted. You will need the 64-bit version to do this effectively.
Quote:
32-bit operating systems:
2^32 = 4,294,967,296 B (Bytes)
4,294,967,296 / 1024 = 4,194,304 KB (Kilobytes)
4,194,304 / 1024 = 4,096 MB (Megabytes)
4,096 / 1024 = 4 GB (Gigabytes)
64-bit operating systems:
2^64 = 18,446,744,073,709,551,616 B (Bytes)
18,446,744,073,709,551,616 / 1024 = 18,014,398,509,481,984 KB (Kilobytes)
18,014,398,509,481,984 / 1024 = 17,592,186,044,416 MB (Megabytes)
17,592,186,044,416 / 1024 = 17,179,869,184 GB (Gigabytes)
17,179,869,184 / 1024 = 16,777,216 TB (Terabytes)
16,777,216 / 1024 = 16,384 PB (Petabytes)
16,384 / 1024 = 16 EB (Exabytes)

Hello Boma,
I have a T7100 in my right now running XP. I know the bios support 4 gig RAM but required 64 bit OS.
Make sure you get a socket P processor.
