Default XPS 1530 not compatible with WinXP?

After at least three attempts at getting information from Dell about this question, I thought I'd post here. One rep said that I would not be able to remove Vista and install WinXP on the XPS 1530. He said the components were not compatible with XP. Others indicated it would be fine.

All seem to agree the switch to XP would work without problem on XPS 1730. (But that machine is not portable enough form me.)

Anyone have any experience installing XP on an XPS 1530?

XP is completely compatible on your XPS M1530. I received mine yesterday and had XP with all drivers completely installed within 2 hours.

The thread that pixelot linked is the only resource you need for drivers. About halfway through the thread near page 5 someone posted a rared file with all of the drivers in it. Download those 2 files and that should be all of the drivers that you need.

The only thing that you may not have is a copy of Windows XP with the SATA drivers slipstreamed into it. You have two options, but first you must download the Intel Matrix storage drivers from the dell support page. Then you can either load the drivers by pressing f6 during the xp installation when it tells you to press f6 to load raid drivers (this happens before you select partitions, shortly after you press a key to boot from CD) or you can download a program called nLite and slipstream the drivers into your Windows XP CD. I would actually recommend the slipstream process as it is a great tool to learn and it can teach you a lot about windows and its a lot easier than it sounds.

The choice is yours. If you need help slipstreaming the installation just send me a private message. I would be more than happy to walk you through it.
