Downgrate from Vista to XP on SONY vaio VGN-FE890

Hello,

Can somebody help me with this problem? ... i've tried to install XP with drivers i've founded on internet, but many things didn't worked, i mean almoust nothing. Please help asp cause i hate Vista.

That machine should run fine with XP, can you give us a little more detailes on your problems. What kind of XP copy are you trying to install, and what things do work?

Well, i have an FE with Intel Centrino core 2 duo T7300, 2Gb of ram, 200 gb HDD and GeForce Go 7600; Wireless LAN (802.11a\b\g) and Bluetooth Technology, 15.4" WXGA TFT with XBRITE-HiColor Technology and MOTION EYE White Camera

The problems were with the modem & sound, and also with the key-functions. the video driver also didn't worked properly.
The wireless it was working, but the network .. also not working. the camera, not working.
The drivers for motherboard & processor, i've taken them from intel.com.
The model i have, sony is saying that is not compatible with XP.

PS:i've tried to instal drivers from an older version (VGN-FE790), but they sayd it can't be installed, cause is a diffrent machine. (but those drivers are .exe, if i could open them ... i think it would be ok, i mean something like unpack the .exe files)

sorry ... the Xp version is Xp profession with SP2

I'm not sure about the function keys, but all other problems should be fixable. A lot of solutions seems to have gathered in this tread, i suggest you try those first and if that doesn't help you you can always report back here.

Hello,

I've succesfully installed Xp.

The drivers are working fine.

The only problem that i have, is with the control buttons, they aren't working: the S1 & S1 buttons, not working; the volume & mute buttons are working. Also the FN+ buttons are not working. And for example i can't find another way to change the brightness.

I managed to downgrade my VAIO VGN-FE890 from Vista to XP SP2. Everything is working fine, but S1, S2 buttons and the modem. Since I don't care for those functions, I haven't tried to fixed them.

What I did was:
1. Download drives from sony site for the VGN-FE790. I know, if you try to install them it will complaint about the wrong model. See step 2.
2. Do double ckick to the exe file of the driver you are trying to install (WAIT), then look for the file model.txt in c:\windows. Edit this file and replace Model = "VGN-FE890E" with Model = "VGN-FE790" then save the file.
3. Return to the installation window and continue the installation of the driver.

These are the drivers I downloaded, I don't remember if I installed all of them, I guess you have to try:
