Default HP backup/recovering problems??

When recovering my Hp pc from a breakdown, Hp's recovery program did a backup of some files onto my partition drive D: into a folder named MINWINPC. In this folder are the files backup.exe and backup.fbw.

I run the backup.exe program and a "system recovery files" folder was created on cnote: c: and d: are partitions)
In this folder there is a "RestoreWiz.log" file. Now, after some investigation it appears the "RestoreWiz.log" should actually be "RestoreWiz.exe"...a program that is suppose to restore the backup files on the computer.
I changed the .log to .exe and run it, nothing happened. Windows Vista cant restore because it it claims there is no backup files on my computer.
From my research on the internet, it appears this is a Hp exclusive problem.

I LOVE Hp but am getting tired of them now...from quickplay buttons problems to webcam issues, Hp is too slow when it comes to building good softwares/drivers for their computers + bad customer care.
Anyway, for now, someone PLEASE HELP.
1, why and how do i use the RestoreWiz.log file.?
2, What am i doing wrong?
3, Is there any program outthere that can restore Hp's backup files.?
4, Any help will be appreciated.

To use a recovery CD, just boot up from it. I think it's pointless to run a back-up partition. I'd stick to recovery disks or just regular clean install disks. If your system is really bad, a recovery partition doesn't always work. The people who are more knowledgeable about this stuff will probably chime in and explain sometime. I read a really detailed post sometime about why recovery disks are superior, but I don't know where it is. Alternatively, you could do a search on the subject.

Thanks, but you guys are not understanding me. I have already recovered my computer and its working fine, the problem is how to restore my backup files(created whiles recovering the pc with Hp's recovery CD). It looks like a RestoreWiz.log file should actually be RestoreWiz.exe... a program meant to recover the backup file..or am wrong? why is windows telling me there are no backup files on my computer when Hp's recovery program did a backup(backup.exe and backup.fbw), How do i install Hp's backedup files?
PLEASE, I need your HELP.

I would rename the RestoreWiz.exe back to .log, because that is not a mistake any application would make. I have also seen on other posts that if you rename the files you have, and add another 0 in them. If the file is Backup.001.fbw, rename it to Backup.0001.fbw, etc... Then try to run the restore.

You might be able to look in the log file (even though it might be binary) and see some file names in there.

Thanks. I also read about changing name of the backups files but it only works, if the name starts from .010 , .011.... when i changed mine to 0001 and doubled clicked, nothing happened. But that doesn't seem to be the problem in my case, because the backup.001.exe file runs alright. It created, on my desktop a folder named "system recovery files" which has a RestoreWiz.log file and a C: folder containing a lot of different folders/files that seems to be the files that needs to be restored. It has some data from the old computer(before the crash). It seems the RestoreWiz.log, if its really suppose to be RestoreWiz.exe, has to use these files to restore my computer....right??
Also i can see some of my pictures in the "system recovery files" but i cant view them because i dont have the permission to access them.(vista!!!!!) and my video files there wont play too.
Please Any ideas are welcome. Am really desperate here.

What is the size of the folder and all the files that were restored? If they are there, you probably just need to select all of the files and take ownership.

Select all the files, right click on them and select properties. Choose the security tab. Click advanced, then the owner tab, click your name, check off "replace owner on subcontainers and objects" then click apply.

After that's done, hopefully you should have access to the files.
