just ordered my Vista64 by sending a pm to Chris at the Dell Community Forum as per people's suggestion here. Allow 3-5 days for delivery but otherwise no problems. Will update once I do the install -- again, using this thread as my guide. Thanks to all who have contributed.

Dell is now selling XPS M1330s with 8GB of RAM and Vista 64 on them.

Does that mean that Dell will now support Vista 64 on our laptops if we call in under warranty?

Up to now I've been afraid that if I have ANY problem the first thing they will make me do is put Vista x86 back on my machine.

Yeah, they will only support the OS that you purchased your machine with.

I've found a lot of great info in this thread and want to thank everyone.

I still had an issue with audio not working w/ 64 Ultimate. The SRS drivers did not help either. I finally was able to get everything working, and sorry if repeating a known fix. I downloaded he vista x86/32-bit drivers from the dell website and uninstalled the audio driver from the device manager and all SRS drivers/files also. When i ran the setup, it said it was x86/x64 vista... it installed and after a restart all audio works perfect.
Hope this helps someone...

It's very simple to install Windows. Search the forums for "Vista Clean Install", there are tons of threads on the subject.
