Default ThinkVantage System Update error 75

I am running Vista Home Basic and I received an error when I try to update my system.

"Error 75 received from the Package Index Server. Please contact the Support Center."

anyone knows how to fix that?

Check the following registry keys (or similar)

HKLM\HARDWARE\ACPI\DSDT\LENOVO\
HKLM\HARDWARE\ACPI\FADT\LENOVO\
HKLM\HARDWARE\ACPI\RSDT\LENOVO\

They should be in the form of your model number without the hyphen and not TP-xx___

Wow!! it worked beautifully! note that the serial (for my thinkpat t43) had to be in caps.

Ive reinstalled the OS in this machine more than three times and, given that these events are spread through the year, i ALWAYS forget and download system update, not until now (a full year afterwards) had I been able to find a solution.

kudos

I'm having the same trouble. However, I have an extra twist:

If I update the parts in the registry with with the correct model number, I can then run System Update correctly. However, if I reboot, the model numbers revert to TP-7J___. I am running Vista Business.

Is there a way to make this permanent?

I recently swapped the system board in this machine. I used the Hardware Maintenance Disk to update the System Number to the correct serial number (item 20), but nothing else is set. The BIOS itself shows the system serial number but not the Model Number, which is odd. Any ideas?

use the maintenance disk to update the system

the syntax should be 1SMMMMMMMXXXXXXX where

MMMMMMM = Machine Type/ model
XXXXXXX = serial number of the machine

Where can I get a copy of the maintenance disk? I assume it's a 3.5 in disk. Can the maintenance routine be run from a memory key?

And more Kudos, I simply renamed "TP-1Y___" to "2686EGU" and the updates started flowing...

Good solution
Thanx

I bought a refurbished T400 off of ebay and am now trying to sort out exactly what model I purchased, so I can try this trick to get the ThinkVantage updater to work.

To complicate matters, I think it was originally from Lenovo Singapore!
Looking at the underside of the laptop, it has a lot of Chinese characters.

As far I can tell, the type # 6475. Usually this is followed by a 3-letter code as well, and I can't seem to find that anywhere on the notebook.

I've tried just "6475" in the registry keys, but that doesn't work.

There's some numbers on the Windows Vista sticker, aside from the key, but they don't appear to be in the right format.

Is there any other way to determine what the model is?

Help please!

PS: I also can't seem to find a correctly-formatted serial number either. Any suggestions?
