Default Satellite U300 (WinXP Drivers Here)

Hi Everyone,

This thread is mostly for WinXP fans/IT professionals that don't have time to waste with that thing called 'Vista'.

..and Because Notebook Review has been so good to me in terms of the amount of resources accessible via these forums, I decided to sign up and post something I noticed that might make 'would be' Satellite u305-S5127 purchasers happy.

If anyone has taken a look at both the Tecra M8-ST3094 & Satellite U305-S5127 units, they both have the same 'exact' specifications in terms of it's innards - i.e. the cpu, chipset, lcd, etc. are all the same.

The only differences between the two seem to lie in the satellite u305's extra buttons next to the power button (which are useless in my opinion) - that, and the *OS*

So Essentially, the only difference is the OS -> in which case, the drivers would be *More than* interoperable

One can easily go to www.toshiba.com and check under technical support -> downloads, and choose the Tecra M8-ST3094 for the drivers, or use the direct link below:

Have Fun!

P.S. In truth, I've been waiting around for a 13" laptop for sometime that had Windows XP support; however with MS's Vista push, it has become somewhat increasingly harder to find new laptops with Windows XP support/drivers. Personally, I would purchase the Tecra M8, however I DO like the purchase security of buying from costco.com (3 month return policy [USA], or 6 months [Canada]) and decided to just get the satellite and load it's tecra twin's drivers

Thank you. Most of these work with U305-5107 as well.

Hey Kris, np.

Since Toshiba is a little skimpy on whether or not there are any differences between the soundcards, modem or LAN adapters throughout the Satellite u300 series - the only difference(s) obvious to myself is the videocards.

..and since I'm not entirely sure if the videocard driver listed in my previous toshiba link covers your specific laptop model; you can actually download the driver directly from intel (who provides the videocards in them).

Just go to the link below:

http://www.intel.com/support/graphic.../CS-025753.htm

Then choose 'Graphics Driver' for the Mobile Intel® GM965 Express Chipset.

After that just choose which version of Windows you want the driver for and you should be all set

Good Luck!

Hi!

Where did you find your WinXP SATA driver?

I have WinXP PRO SP2, and I can't install it, since I don't have any SATA driver.

thanks

In the above link I provided to Intel, there's something called the 'Intel Matrix Storage Manager' - I think this may be for the SATA controller..

Eitherway, here's a direct link to the '32-bit Floppy Configuration Utility for Intel® Matrix Storage Manager' - it's suppose to allow you to make a boot disk to be used in a usb floppy disk drive that you'd just attach to your computer:

I have yet to actually recieve my u305, so I haven't been able to try this stuff yet; either way test it and let us know how it goes.

Oh, I almost forgot to add - When you guys install Windows XP with these Dual Core (all Dual Core) systems, make sure you go to microsoft's website, and download from the download section the Windows XP Updates for the Dual Core issues - for some reason they don't pop up themselves in the automatic updates (at least they didn't for me when I got my first Core 2 duo last december [patches were released the previous summer]).

Hello Jordan, I'm one of those. But, how about the Sata Controller driver??? Where can I find it? Have you installed XP? How did you did it? Did you use a floppy with sata drivers or you made a CD?

Tks

This is crazy. So if I get a U305, that mean I have to use Vista and no XP driver support?

Has anyone got all their drivers loaded on the U305 with XP SP2 OS?
