Default Anyone heard of the ASUS A8HE-X1

Hey Everyone. I'm in the market for a new laptop. My 3 year old Dell just won't cut it anymore. I don't really need much as far as performance goes -- I have a decent desktop. The laptop will be mainly used for graduate school, internet surfing, research, etc. Nothing too intensive. I want something light - my Dell weighs like 10lbs before the adapter!

I was looking on Newegg and saw this.

Couldn't find much on this one on the net. Anyone know much about it? Specs look good to me. Like the 1x1gb memory that it comes with, can throw in another cheaply without replacing both. Also love that price - $1000 is about my limit. As far as vista, the 80gb hdd, that doesn't really matter to me. The processor is a pentium "dual" core as opposed to duo, anyone know the difference...probably why its so inexpensive...

Does ASUS manufacture good laptops? I understand they are in the motherboard business...but haven't heard anything on their laptops. What do you think, good deal for what I am looking for?

Great forum, wish I would have found y'all before I bought that Dell!!

Thanks for any insight!

Looks like a bargain A8 series notebook.

It should be very similar to the Asus A8F reviewed here.

Personally, I believe Asus really shines at the mid to high level spec configurations. They don't do really so well at budget in terms of value. You might want to look at similarly priced Dells or HPs as they give a greater bang for the buck at that price range.
