Does your HP have a Slimtype DVD A DS8AZH drive?
It has been posted recently in some HP threads (particularly the Current/Prospective dv6000t owners thread) concerning problems with the Slimtype DVD A DS8AZH. Yet, I noticed these are all pretty recent posts, all within the past month, if I'm not mistaken.
However, more was raised about this drive in Dell threads months ago.
This is what I'm wondering. Is this a new DVD drive to HP's and that's why few have written about it? Or, is no one having trouble writing with their Slimtype DVD A DS8AZH's?
I have this drive in my dv6275us, but I haven't burned any DVD's yet.
Thanks.
Bill

Well, is there a specific problem that we should look for? I have that drive but I haven't really done anything with it yet except to rip some DVD's and those all turned out well.

Re: Does your HP have a Slimtype DVD A DS8AZH drive?
From what I've read, the issue seems to be writing to DVD. For more information concerning the issues, you may want to check out posts 936 and 939 on this page: http://forum.notebookreview.com/show...=75470&page=94. On the next page or two are additional posts.
I simply ask the question to try to see if others who have this drive (which I also have) have found the drive to function well and that, hopefully, is the reason I haven't read much about it.

Re: Does your HP have a Slimtype DVD A DS8AZH drive?
I just got an HP notebook (which I hate) and my CD drive will not work. In the device manager I can see there is a problem but I uninstall drivers but cant get it to work. What a drag. Any suggestions??

Hello everybody,
I am the man that experienced some problems with the DV6200 internal recorder. Here is the whole story:
The last 10-12 years, I used all types of Verbatim media with a big variety of desktop recorders (Plextor IDE, Plextor SCSI, Yamaha, Teac,Waitec, NEC etc) and I have never experienced any kind of problem. I have come to trust them a lot.
First I want to say that my notebook’s drive is a MAT****A DVD-RAM UJ-850S. It is probably a Panasonic drive renamed. The firmware version is 1.05
Unfortunately when I first tried to burn some data compilation or .iso files on various Verbatim and TDK CD-RWs 10x disks, all operations failed no matter what software I used. Initially I thought of Vista compatibility issue but when I tried with Nero v7.7.5.1 , ImgBurn 2.2.0.0 and Roxio software that came with the notebook I realised that this was not the case. All failed.
So I started to fear I had a crappy drive. Fortunately I was able to burn some TDK DVD-RWs and Verbatim DVD-R disks so after numerous attempts I came to the conclusion that there is a serious compatibility problem with many brands of CD-RWs disks only (???). At the moment that is my conclusion but I am not totally sure yet. I think it is a shame that this recorder have these incompatibility issues with so many disks and I can say that it is a low quality drive.
I just hope that in future, they resolve this issues with a new firmware version. Up to now I am still trying to find a compatible brand of CD-RWs disks to work with this recorder. The only one that burned ok is an very old Verbatim CD-RW 4x disk.
The drive works ok as a reader.

What HP notebook do you have, and why do you hate it?
Does your CD drive not read CD's, much less write?

Re: Does your HP have a Slimtype DVD A DS8AZH drive?
i think i m facing same problem with my dv6200 cto .....
my dvd drive is ... Slimtype DVD A DS8AZH ....
1. verbatim dvd-r 8x failed (i was trying to burn recovery discs)
2. tdk cd-r worked well for 4 discs ... 5 th failed ... again worked well for rest of the discs
3.verbatim dvd+rw 4x ... burned perfectly (data files)
4.again tried verbatim dvd-r 8x with same data files ... failed twice

Re: Does your HP have a Slimtype DVD A DS8AZH drive?
hmmm...I don't think I've had trouble with my burner so far. I've burn the recovery DVD-Rs (really cheap branded, it can't get worse than those) and I've burned CD-RWs (also really old and generic brand, can't be worse than those either). None of those had any trouble.
Edit: I also have a dv6200 CTO
