My 1530 arrived today with a Samsung 1680x1050 screen (despite assurances when ordering I'd get a LG). My two thoughts are (i) the grainyness effect is much milder than appears in the comparison pic and (ii) the viewing angle is appalling, I can move my head 3" in any direction and get totally different colour, brightness and contrast. It's going back. (Fabulous computer other than that though.)

Follow up is I pointed out they had promised me a LG screen. The rep started not calling me back when he promised, initially said would get back to me, didn't, so I called him and he says give him 24-48 hours... nothing, I call him and he says it's nearly 7 days and if don't sort it out soon I won't be able to return (I'm in the UK). I point out the UK 7-day rule depends on when I tell them it's no good, not when they get around to actually doing anything about it. He says he'll call back in 5-10 mins. I actually heard from him next 2 weeks later...

So I tried another rep, explained I really liked it but just wanted the screen I was promised. He said best bet was to return for a refund and then re-order (presumably less work for him and he isn't losing any commission), so I did that.

Two weeks later I hear from the original rep, says "good news", I can re-order and be guaranteed to get a LG screen, just one catch, have to pay an extra 90 quid from the priviledge (about 180 dollars). Since he promised me I would get one originally and then ducked me in the hope I'd get stuck with the computer I wasn't, somewhat unsurprisingly, all that motivated to place an order. I did manage to be polite and wished him a good weekend, but this isn't encouraging me to recommend Dell to anybody, least of all myself when I have to recommend what new servers the company will get (which was going to be Dells...)

Ho hum...

WOW. I will be VERY interested to see if that becomes SOP on Dell's website configuration page there or here in the US. One of my myriad calls to Dell's support on this issue led me to someone who tried to insist the LG was an upgrade from the Samsung....

I can just see the screen type options:
() 1280x800 (included),
() 1440x900 (add $75)
() 1680x1050 (crappy) (add $100)
() 1680x1050 (good) (add $180).

Reminds me of another post on this topic where someone said, in effect, give us the option to buy the screen. Wondering if Dell took them up on the idea
