Does anyone know if you only get this by using the separate character creator? Is it worth it? Should I keep CC installed for future games?

Thanks
I thin it's only available if you use the creator. I just went on steam downloaded it, made a quick guy, saved it/uploaded while logged in my account. Ran my DA:O and saw I got the memory ring in my inventory and uninstalled the CC off steam.
Also I didn't know about it until too late, but the Dragon Age Journey flash game gives 3 in-game bonuses. One of them is easier to get, the other two is taking me some time. I'm playing that at work LOL on my free time on my way to get the bonuses items. They seem pretty cool, so why not mess around with the flash game while I'm not doing much =D.

To my disappointment however, I found that I only get between 20-30 fps on medium settings (1366*768 resolution), which hurt the playing experience. Does this seem normal?

The reason I am suspicious is that I can play for example Fallout 3 with high settings on the same resolution perfectly fine (around 40 fps in Wastelands). Since these games have quite similar system recommendations I believe they should play similarly.

Should I accept this performance or do you guys think there is something wrong here? Any tip of advice what I could do?

I'm running Windows 7 64-bit with latest display drivers from Acer.

Thanks in advance.
I am a bit surpised by your results. You have a much nicer card than I, my processor is slightly faster and I have 2GB more ram.. I play at a higher resolution: 1920x1080 and I get around 20-30FPS as well which to me, does not hurt playing experience at all.. but I've been reading, I think there's a memory leak somewhere b/c after an hour or so my game starts to stutter into like 15FPS which it starts to become somewhat noticeable. Oh yeah, medium graphics, high textures, no AA no frame buffer.
@1280x720 I get 60-70FPS..
Windows7 64bit ultimate

as someone suggested.. try drivers?

btw.. has anyone noticed the 100% CPU usage when this game runs? Jeeez, even at the main login screen. I ordered a Zalman NC2000 just b/c my previous cooler didn't seem to be cuttin it even though I am undervolted/AS5 - I don't think my temps got that high (65/63C), but I was nervous nonetheless.

Yes, Even on my Q9550, CPU usage goes above 80% on all 4 core.

Do avoid the 191.xx driver for now as there have been reports that they don't work well with this game. Use either the 190.xx or recent 18x.xx versions.

That said, I'm running at med detail and med texture on my laptop at 1088x612 (16x9) and seems to eb doing ok but I mostly play on my desktop.
Thanks, I've tried several different drivers now with no improvement whatsoever.

I've read on other boards that this game is very heavy on the CPU, but I mean the recommended specs is still only a C2D 2.4ghz compared to my 2.2.

Even putting the resolution to 800x600 and everything on low still doesn't get me more than 25-35fps when walking around in a small town.

Frustrating...

Recommended is 2.4 GHz Core 2 QUAD. Big difference. That said, I'm happy with my performance on a C2D 2.4, but I haven't hit any huge fights yet.

That was the initial recommendation, but they actually changed it to C2D prior to release:

I'm reading now that there seems to be a lot of issues for people running 64-bit OS. Gonna install win XP and see if there's any difference.

I have not had a problem running this game with the asus g51. NO lag and everything I can find turned up. Although I have not installed fraps to get a look at my actual frame rate.

lol, I have this, Borderlands, CoD:MW2 and L4D2 to play through the holidays.. oh and that one game WoW. Doubt it'll take me into 2011 though as that's when I feel D3 will be out, no sooner.

that is weird.. even though you're barely under CPU req. @800x600 you should be getting max FPS, it should change and go up.. like I said when I drop my res down to 1280x720 I more than double FPS to 60-70 rather than my native res getting 20-30. something's up and I don't think its your processor.. I mean I have recommended but it still gets higher fps at lower res. soemthing doesn't make sense here.

DA:O runs swell. Assuming I'm at home, I hook it up to my TV and run on max settings at 1920x1080. No AA, though. Runs pretty well.

You're going to be running it justttt fine. Can probably even put AA on.

Again, probably be able to run it at max res on your native res.

Well, I guess that's settled, but I think you're gonna be running it fine anyway...

Dragon Age has no level cap. You can expect anywhere from 10 to 100 hours of gameplay per run, depending on how you want to play it.

Thanks!

My specs are:
Intel® Core™2 Duo CPU T6400 @ 2.00GHz, 2000 Mhz, 2 Core(s), 2 Logical Processor(s)
4GB Ram
GeForce 9300M GS 512 MB
Vista 64bit

I should add that the character creator ran perfectly FWIW.
Yeh... like the other guy said, I think it'll prolly be touch-and-go, but you should be able to at least get it running...

I picked up the Blood Dragon Armour. Currently sitting at about 30-odd base strength, but all you have to do is abuse some game mechanics and you'll be sitting pretty in it in no time. It's just like D2; if you're wearing equipment that grants you enough strength to put the Blood Dragon Armour on, you'll be able to keep it on.
