Default Logitech G27 Racing Wheel

Just picked this up from Best Buy today for $299. I've been playing Need for Speed Shift with it all night. It is so much fun! Excellent steering wheel, 6 speed shifter, and pedals with clutch.

yeah that is an awesome piece of machine, about the best wheel you can buy. However @ $300 thats a lot more than most can justify unless they are racing sim addicts with a dedicated setup.

Logotech has the Momo and G25 both very good and similar wheels for significantly less.

How long do these last? I've gone through a bunch of cheaper ~$100 wheels (including a couple of Saiteks, where in one case I managed to literally tear the entire wheel assembly away from it's housing) and I've been wondering whether I should get a good one for a long time - just thought about it a lot, never actually bothered in the end given my preferences for skulking FPS's.

How do these cope with being brute-forced in the same manner?

they are really built to a high standard, built much sturdier than the cheaper $100 wheels. by no means does it feel like a toy.

Any of the 3 logitech wheels, (Momo, G25, G27) will last you many many years of regular use as long as your not super abusive to it.

I got the momo on ebay brand new for like $60 so you do not have to spend a lot to get a lot, just have to be a good deal hunter.

I settled with the momo because I just wanted to test the waters and not overspend on a wheel if I do not intend to use it often, and it was a good call because the wheel surpassed my expectations and is very nice and I do not use it often, just Need For Speed Shift and Burnout Paradise once in a while.

Each wheel has a "flaw" though.

Momo
Pro - Best Price
Con - No Clutch/H-Shifter

G25
Pro - Has Clutch/H-Shifter
Con - Only 2 Buttons on the Wheel

G27
Pro - Fixes G25 shortcommings
Con - Not a whole lot different than G25 but cost a LOT more.

the G25 used to be the uber expensive wheel, but now with the G27 they price has gone nearly in half on some of them. Problem is I use all 6 buttons on the Momo all the time, I do not think I would make it with only 2 buttons on the wheel like the G25 has.

The G27 added 4 more buttons, and changed the gears inside the wheel for a more smooth action but thats all and that small change was not worth the huge bump in cost IMO.

I think the best wheel in all honesty is really the fanatec wheel. But at the price im not so sure.

But for me personally i think i am really going to buy the Thrustmaster F430

Ooh, Thrustmaster. That's a name I haven't heard since my days of mid-1990s flight sim obsession.

I never even knew that they existed.

Yup, they're certainly German

I tried cheaper wheels as I rarely get fully into driving games - but I guess I can consider the G27 a hedge against my bulging biceps
