NOTE TO MODS: I am forced to bypass the language filter because it is lame (AS S = delete the space). This is legit -- see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SubStat...bStation_Alpha

Are there subtitles for that video? And have you built mplayer with AS S support? Try --disable-a ss to see if that helps... Going off of this for reference:
http://lists.mplayerhq.hu/pipermail/...ly/077443.html

This is a bit far out in terms of my comfort level with Mplayer, so I'll probably have to leave it there unless you can think of anything else... you should probably try putting together a bug report.

YAY. after i disable subtitles i gain around 15 sec from last play so now i can play around 1 min and 15 sec
anyway its over 22 hour here so tomorow i wil fill a bug report. i was lucky i keep on another partition ubuntu 9.04 so i am not totally screwed up; i will wait until someone from ubuntu will patch this.
like i said before thx alot again for your time.

dirty fix/workaround
seems after i pass to mplayer -noass and i DON'T rewind or change fullscreen/windowed mplayer it's somehow stable (in a nutshell start movie fullscreen and enjoy the movie). i tested only a few minutes which is far more than my previous attempts

Ah ok, at least it's making some sense. I must've gotten the option wrong (--disable-as s versus -noass). Thanks for following up!

I dunno you might try pulling the latest mplayer from svn -- but I'm not sure if the bug has been patched.

At least the problem has been isolated... just have to wait for a fix.

Latest svn pull give a bit more skipping capabilities but still crashes when Substation Alpha is enabled

I compiled last svn build with option
./configure --enable-debug=3
with the intention to collect more data for reporting a bug. Unfortunately mplayer fails me.
No more crashes
Maybe i am just plain lucky but i will test more these days to find any more bugs (if any) in mplayer.

Hey james-, finally found a bug report for that flickering problem with the NVIDIA card after upgrading to Jaunty:

Same here... no it doesn't want to crash with --enable-debug=3 going to configure without debug(might be more strict without) and try to compile again

---

Compiled without and doesn't seem to crash anymore
