Default Apple Updates $999 MacBook

Apple Updates $999 MacBook

Apple today updated its base $999 MacBook with a shiny white unibody chassis. Other features include an LED-backlit display, Core 2 Duo 2.26GHz processor, a non-replaceable battery with a claimed seven hours of life, and a glass multi-touch trackpad.

The one place(well actually two) that would have been nice to upgrade is the 9400m as its getting a bit stale, IMHO, these days. They should have gone at least with the 150m or something. The CPU also would have been a bit nice if they made the 2.5ghz standard, but not too big of a deal. The rest of the package does look like a pretty solid upgrade.

Agree on the 9400M. I did order myself a nice 27 inch iMac with Core i7 and 8 GB of ram though...:-)

I would love to get the new iMac, but I don't have the space in my room for anything larger than the older 17in model. Mac Pro would be perfect except it a bit on the pricey side, and a bit large for my taste. Now an i5 Mac Mini with a nvidia 210m gpu would be nice 1k, if they only made one. But, again I don't see why there is all this love to the nvidia 9400 when there are better/updated gpus out now.

So...not much. O well. I'd love to try the glass touchpad at least.

You do realize the cost to redesign their boards for the product line would result in a cost being placed on the user?

The 9400 isn't THAT old.
By your logic, there is NO point in buying hardware unless one owns a time machine, in which case one can GO to the future and just buy the latest and greatest then and laugh as everyone else plays catch-up.

Am liking the new lines......also like the fact that Apple piled in a few of the more notable features from the Pro line. Now if they only offered that in black.....

I saw this yesterday in the local Apple Store. Not really digging the shiny, shiny super slippery white surface around the keyboard. It'd be great as a skating rink for ants though. I hope to see Apple drop the price to $899, frankly if I'm spending $999 and see I can get an MBP for $1199 I spend the extra $200 to be that much cooler. But maybe that's their plan.

They will drop prices if the sales are bad... BTW, are you guys going to review the new magic mouse?
