Default Western Digital Intros 2.5" 1TB and 750GB Hard Drives

Western Digital Intros 2.5" 1TB and 750GB Hard Drives

Western Digital today announced the world's first 750GB (WD7500KEVT) and 1TB (WD10TEVT) 2.5-inch hard drives. The drives feature a 3.0Gbps SATA II interface and have a storage density of 333GB per platter.

The drives have a larger-than-normal 12.5mm height, which means they will not fit in most notebooks, which take 9.5mm height drives.

The new drives are available now as My Passport Essential SE USB external drives; the 1TB version retails for $249.99, and the 750GB version $189.99.

One small step for man, one big step for storage. 1TB notebook drives... wow! Too bad I just got a 500GB model last month.

What would be really cool is for next gen mainstream notebooks (15-inch screens and higher) to hold 2 drives:
1 x SSD (min. 128GB) for OS and programs
2 x platter drive like one of these 1TB for files, primary backup and all media

333GB per platter. Where's the 2 platter 667GB version which would fit most notebooks?

I like this one external: WDMET10000. Cost ~ 300$ which is almost the same as 2 Seagate ST9500420ASG's
