MY PLANS FOR MY 1000H NETBOOK

It will serve as my main system at home too, considering my low income and my sense of adventure. I'll connect it to my larger LCD screen (after tossing out my ancient Win98se box), plug in a full size keyboard and mouse (maybe get a bluetooth mouse), and use an external HD and DVD-RW drive.

I'll get a coupla USB sticks: one for data backup, another for loading Linux!

I'll also take advantage of those free online storage services, to backup my data redundantly. AND use Google and other free services to write documents and perform other tasks that I used to do exclusively on my HD, now that I'll soon have high-speed access. The Internet IS my HD! Yay.

Using the built-in webcam and mic, I plan to videoconference w/other activists around the world, while enjoying a cuppa java; and interview folks. (I'm an activist for both gays and homeless people, and like to give them a voice on the web.)

I'd like to turn this into my own Internet radio show, if at all feasible, money-wise. Otherwise, the show won't be live, but provide a new show at least once per week, that anyone can load and play. No streaming video, as it will probably be cost prohibitive. Download mp3's is the way I'd go...and since the 'net is so fast these days for most, what's to complain about?

I have no high-speed access at home. So while at wi-fi coffeehouses or libraries, I'll download whatever videos I'd like to view once back home. Including news stations and favorite TV shows.

So if all goes according to plan, I'll then ditch my old analog TV and VHS box. Screw digital and HD! I'll get it all through the Internet.

I'm still thinking through whether or not to get a new desktop system...emachines makes it so affordable! Just in case my netbook breaks, gets stolen, or suffers some other unhappy incident. At least, I'll have some sort of Internet access until it's repaired or replaced. MAYBE I'll just get a second netbook? Hmmm.

I'm havin' FUN just contemplatin' my new netbook...and SOON I'll have one. And thanks, webmaster (or sysop or whatever), for notebookreview.com...it's been a great help to me already, in just a very short time!

Thanks! I look forward to the adventure; perhaps what I learn can help others. I'm like a man thirsting for water in the Sahara, w/o high-speed access for so long. Wait'll I take my first sip...I'll never stop drinking!

With 44,000,000,000,000 levels, and 67,000,000,009,000 units (not to mention the 32 cells in each unit, so I won't) on each level of Hive9 that's less of a coincidence, and more of The UberQueen's Great Plan.

Default Got it!

Very happy with my purchase. After cashback, the total cost (free shipping/insurance, no tax) comes to $315. For this:

Asus Eee PC 1000H

1GB RAM, 1.6GB atom, 80GB HD, 802.11N, 1.3mp webcam, bluetooth, WinXP (and so on).

Seller has a positive score of 10 since 1999.

And I made sure to complete the entire cashback process, read their msg. posted in my eBay mail, then went to my live.com mail box, and activated the cashback order to M$.

Wait'll my friends back on Hive9 hear about this! They'll be yellow with envy.

Also, I've seen a lot of eBay listings with the 1000HA model number, but I do not see that model number on ASUS's website. What are the specifications of the 1000HA model?

Thanks in advance! And oh yeah...I've used Live.com's cashback and it works. About 60 days ago I purchased a Nintendo Wii with 30% cashback and I've just now gotten paid through Paypal.com. I am able to see eBay listings that qualify. Just be careful that you do not purchase the 1000HD when you search for 1000H.
HA doesn't have bluetooth or wireless N (wireless b/g).

In terms of the SSD, they used 2 for the 1000H. I'm pretty sure it is an 8GB and a 32GB. The 8GB is decent, the 32GB is not so much. Right now, the SSD's used are just not great. you're better off going with the HDD version and buying a 2.5" SSD to replace with instead.

FedEx delivered my lovely little Asus PC four days ago, and I'm having a ball. It's actually the 1000HA model, includes integrated webcam/mic and 160gb HD. Pearly white. I invite everyone to visit my blog entry:
