As in my old thread where I created a Driver and Utility pack for earlier SZ models, here are the latest and 100% working Drivers and Utilities for the SZ7.
Extract the archive to a removeable USB disk or burn to a CDR. Keep the folder/file structure intact.
After a clean Vista install open Device Manager and and right-click each working and unknown device and select "Update Driver Software" and "Browse my computer .. ".
Make sure "Include subfolders" is checked and Browse to the "Sony VAIO SZ7 Drivers (Vista x86)" folder.
Vista will scan the subfolder and find a driver for an unknown device or an updated driver for a working device if available.
There is no set order, I work my way from top to bottom. There won't be new or updated drivers available for about half the devices, you'll soon work out which these are after you've done this a few times. It doesn't matter if you do select the device, Vista will just tell you it found no drivers.
Do the above for all the hardware devices, even the working ones as there are newer drivers available in the pack.
Utilities Installation
The Utilities are numbered in the above post and also numbered in the archive. That's because the first four MUST be installed in the correct order or the Fn keys won't work.
The rest are just numbered in the order I like to install them. It also helps me to keep them organised, i.e. when I'm refreshing the utilies with updated versions I can keep track of them more easily.
They are also ordered in how important / useful they are. e.g not everyone will want to install 12 and 13 but 5, 6 and 7 should be installed.
I have downloaded the driver ZIP files but when I try to open them, I am not able to open them with either winzip or winrar. Have downloaded them twice just to be sure... same result.
Ahh, I see 7-zip (missed that one). I will install 7-zip thanks.
Just to let the forum, know I did a complete fresh install of Ultimate on my Vaio SZ71. Used your utils list, so many thanks for that. The only additional software which would not work was the Vaio Update 3, but I mnaged to source that from my recovery disk, so a happy house so far.
With al the Sony bloatware, the machine uses 53 processes (give and take) and still runs very fast... Looking for the Sony delivered WinDVD. Anyone know where to D/L that from?
I left the Vaio Update 3 out of the pack as it's something I don't install. The updates aren't frequent enough to keep an app running in the background checking for them.
I've got a copy of WinDVD 8 from the Recovery DVD. Give me a few hours and I'll upload it for you.
followed the steps in your other post and used these drivers, utilities and everything (mostly) works fine!
It's asking me for drivers for my modem, but I can get that sorted once I've finished finding out how to get at the hidden partition on the laptop (seperate thread)
