Default Installing XP on a Vista System

I have an Asus F3JP laptop, and id like to install XP on it. It currently has Vista. When I put the XP CD in and restart, nothing out of the ordinary happens, no options, no nothing...

How do i install it?

You may have your computer's BIOS set to boot directly to the hard drive. What happens when you put your Vista disc in (or if you have a recovery disc and you try that)? You may have to tell the computer to boot to CD first. Then you will need to create a new partition for XP. I can't recall if there is an order to installing XP and Vista for dual boot, but you may run into that situation. Windows does NOT like downgrading (even when you're just trying to run in parallel).

at the very least, you should see the boot up screen of the XP installation which is all text based.

if not, check your boot option or else your CD is bad.

Yes, change the boot order in the BIOS to have the CD ROM at the top.
If you are planning to use both XP and Vista then after installing XP you will have to repair the MBR (master boot record) to have Vista boot loader in order to boot Vista.

You might want to take a look at these two links if your dual booting....

http://www.pro-networks.org/forum/about88231.html
&
http://www.syschat.com/dual-boot-vis...eady-1946.html

The first link uses VistaBootPRO for the dual boot and the other one is done by editing the boot.ini.

I haven't tried these yet, but I plan on it this week for my Sony Sz430.

recently I have installed xp on vista home premium with out any problem. I booted from XP cd and delete vista partition (because there was only one C partition and it is assigned to vista) and create some new partitions.

there is no problem.

Do you get error message?

its easy...first make a partition. Here's a complete tutorial. then boot your laptop/PC and put your windows XP disc (Service pack 2), NOTE you should set first your boot options to CD in BIOS.then install it!
